Music club ♡

Hey guys !

  Since I'm less petrified here than earlier, gonna just tell you about this club that I'd like to create!

So the principle would be that we'd reunite and share music recommandations, it can be anything, a song an album or an artist/band! I figured it would be nice, since I spend a lot of time talking about the music I listen to, and I'd also be keen to learn about your tastes, so that we'd complete each other's playlists. :))

Could you tell me below if you are interested and which day in the week would be most accomodating for you to attend the first session! I also think that we should make style-themed weeks, for example covering only rock or anything else ! It could take many different forms :D

I, Daniel Blake - Ken Loach

I know that an article was already made about Ken Loach but I'd like to write about him anyway ;)

So, Ken Loach is really one of my favourite film-maker.You may have heard of him recently because his last film, I Daniel Blake was on display at the Gyptis last week (For 2.50 Euros!!)

Seriously, this movie was great (so great that I saw him twice)

So, Ken Loach is an English film-director born in 1936. He is well-known, for his socialist ideas very presents in his films.
If you like Ken Loach you might like as well Billy Eliott by Stephen Daldry wich deals about  the miners' strikes. Like Ken Loach, Stephen Daldry illustrates the daily life of 'normal' people that could be us, spectators, and all the problems they must face.

I, Daniel Blake came out this years and is already called "The must-see movie of the year"by critics, and they're right, it won the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival

I won't say that I've not cried (it seems almost impossible) because it is so well-told and so touching that in 1 hour and a half you have the time to love the characters so much, to suffer with them, to be happy with them, to live with them...

During all the movie you follow

Daniel, a joiner living in Newcastle who has just had a heart attack. He applies for the employment and support allowance but doesn't get it because he is able to work after reconsideration however he is not. So he has to claim for job-seekers allowance but everything is so difficult for him (given that he doesn't how to use a computer) that he quickly abandons to look for a job and appeal.

He soon meets Katie, a single mother with her two child, who have just arrived in Newcastle, in a very precarious situation. Daniel puts all his problems aside to help them.

I let you discover the end if you want but this movie is really worth watching!

Even if it can seem weird I'm often attracted by the colours of a movie and I absolutely love the Ken Loach films ones and I, Daniel Blake does not escape the rule, the colours are very appropriate to the situation and so beautiful..

Ken Loach is really one of my favourite film-director even if I have seen only some of his movies.

Anyway I encourage you to watch I, Daniel Blake and other films made by him and tell me what you think of them!

Debate club!

Hey everybody,

I am a Terminale student and took more responsabilities in the functioning of the debate club this year. I really want it to work so that we can all go and participate to a MUN (Model United Nation) in Aix and maybe in Lyon. If you have never been and you wonder what it is, don't hesitate to ask me questions about this event.

Anyway, the debate club is set off again! Our first meeting this year will be on Monday the 5th in the usual meeting room (on the ground floor) at 12.35.
The goal of this meeting is to make a first debate to ameliorate our critical thinking on today's main issues or current debates (all in English of course). It is a fun way to communicate with others while reflecting and convincing.

I chose a pretty simple topic for the first time in order to get used to it and take easily part into the debate :

Should weapons be accessible to everyone?

I count on you to think about this subject, to search concrete examples (countries' legislations, moral and social impact etc) and to conclude by saying "Yes" or "No" (or argumentate well if you can't make up your mind...).
It won't take you more than 30 minutes to do a list of ideas and examples so give it a try :)

If you have any questions concerning the subject, the MUN or the debate club, don't hesitate to come talk to me, Loic or Nathan and we will answer you with pleasure.

Hello Charlie,

It's been a long time that I didn't write, not because I didn't want to but because I didn't have interesting things to share but this Friday (5th June 2015) we will be finally having the news club ( yes it's a bit late but don't worry next year it will be more organized) .

Drama Club and Macbeth

Have you noticed that this coming Monday is the last Monday of the month so as usual it's time for drama club fun!
This time, we'll be playing games but  I believe we'll also have a go at Macbeth.
Am I serious?
Does it sound a. daunting? b. boring? c. amazing?  d. confusing? e. all of these?
Come and give it a try!

BEWARE! THE FIRST MEETING OF THE SCIENCE CLUB TAKES PLACE ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16 SO TO GIVE YOU ALL A CHANCE TO ATTEND,WE’LL POSTPONE THE NEXT DRAMA CLUB MEETING TO MARCH 9 AND WE’LL ALSO HOLD A MEETING AS USUAL AT THE END OF THE MONTH ON MARCH 30.  MAKE SURE YOU WRITE IT DOWN IN YOUR AGENDAS.

THAT MEANS TWICE AS MUCH DRAMA FUN IN MARCH!

Speaking of Macbeth, there's a play about Macbeth, Je serai Macbeth,  at the next door Friche de la Belle de Mai during the second week of the holidays.

It seems to  be worth your while, even if it is in French ;p
It is not a representation of Macbeth per se but appears to be presenting original points of view and perspectives on the play.
From what I understood, it  reflects on what the staging of a play means. The staging of a play is very important and tends to be overlooked by students when they study drama which is quite a shame .I think you could  get valuable and insightful food for thoughts.
Finally, it seems quite fun and funny and students tend to forget that Shakespeare can be actually fun and often funny. HE IS!!!

Sunset Boulevard

Dear Charlie,

Last week, on Tuesday, some of us were at the Cinémathèque for the third meeting of the Cinema Club.

We saw Sunset Boulevard by Billy Wilder, in 1950. The two main actors are William Holden and Gloria Swanson.

Almost all the movie is a flashback. The story takes place in America, in Los Angeles. It is about an old actress, Norma Desmond, who used to be very famous as a silent film actress. But with the arrival of talking pictures, his fame suffered of a big decline.

She now lives alone in her enormous house, with her butler, Max. Joe Gillis, a poor scriptwriter, comes by chance in this house. Norma asks him if he wants to work for her about her new script, Salomé, which will be her comeback on screen. He accepts, and starts to live in her house. But it was not thinking of Norma’s delirium and paranoia.

I really liked this movie because it was a great film noir, with a dark and creepy atmosphere. It was really interesting and some replies, about old age, and the fact that people do not want to grow old and look old really made me think of our society.

Going to see it, I did not think I was going to like it as much as I did!

Cinema Club - You Can't Take It With You

Tuesday, November 25th was the first cinema club session at the Cinémathèque of Marseille.
The movie was "You Can't Take It With You" made by Frank Capra in 1938.

The story is about two very different men: 
Mr P. Kirby (Edward Arnold) a rich businessman who wants to build one of his factories in a neighborhood where he already bought all the houses, except one.
Mr Vanderhof (Lionel Barrymore) is the last owner of a house and he doesn't want to sell it to Mr P. Kirby.
Unfortunately for them, Tony Kirby (James Stewart), Mr P. Kirby' son and Alice Sycamore (Jean Arthur), Mr Vanderhof's grand daughter are getting married.

But what could we expect from a 1930's, black and white and also one of Mr Leah favorite film you will ask.
The answer is: actually a beautiful piece of art which makes you think about your priorities and wonder what would be your life if you were doing what you really want to...
This movie is also a fresh point of view on it (yes, "fresh" even if it's 1930's !!).
The fact is that this movie is full of fun and simply tells you to live your life as happily as possible and obviously to enjoy it !

So we totally recommend it to you (you can watch it with your family, your friends or alone, on a bad or a good mood...)!!!
