Joseph Lambert at "La Réserve à Bulles"

Hey everybody!

Well I know it has been a while since we met Joseph Lambert (the 2nd & 3rd of December) but I didn't find time to write an article about this enriching experience. Loic already wrote an article about the translation at school and I don't think I have anything to add to what he wrote. So I'll rather talk to you about the day after the translation at school where we got to translate in a cartoon shop in Marseille : La Réserve à Bulles". This time, we were only 3 translators so we would have more work. After school, all 3 of us walked to this shop to meet the team and do what we had to do! We all got along very well with the author and it was very good for all of us that he didn't have any special accent from the South of America and that he wasn't speaking as fast as some people do. The library was very cute and I advice all of you to go take a look if you enjoy cartoons. Around 6.30 pm we started translating for Mr Lambert. Some cartoon addict came to listen to this cartoonist and it was very interesting. Nathan, Quentin and I were all helping one another to translate something if we didn't remember because sometimes Joseph Lambert spoke a lot so we had to take lots of notes and remember what he said. It is a very good memory exercise!

After some time of "Conferencing" the spectators had the chance to ask Mr Lambert questions about particular aspects of his books. I loved translating back and forth to assure a communication between two persons. At the end of the meeting, Joseph drew some cartoon to us and we continued talking. He is a very nice and inspiring person who has, I think, taught something to all of us. The Library was so nice that they offered us the book Mr Lambert was introducing and we all felt really greatful for that.

To conclude, we can all say that it was a very interesting new experience and I would love to do it again because even though it requires lots of attention, it is very fun to do.

Meeting Joseph Lambert

       
Dear Charlie,

   As you may know we had an American cartoonist, Joseph Lambert, in our school on the second of December and I was lucky enough to be asked to translate the interview he gave to our students in the school library but also of enjoying a meal at the school cafeteria and ask him questions before that.
 It was also an amazing moment because we met Mrs. Monique Quesada the American Consul General and the Deleguate for the Cultural Affairs.
   This opportunity was given to us by the "Prix Littéraire". I'd like to thank their team but also our documentalist teacher Mrs. Jean and Mrs Marquerie our headmaster.
   Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to translate another interview of Joseph Lambert the next day at the  Réserve à Bulles but I am still very happy to have been able to do one translation. Indeed, it is a unique experience though it is sometimes hard to remember everything detail the author said it was still amazing.

Joseph Lambert is an American cartoonist and illustrator. He was born in 1984 in Kansas and actually lives in Vermont. He graduated from the Center for Cartoon Studies. He received twice the Eisner Price for his most famous comic, "Annie Sullivan & Helen Keller" published in 2012.

On Tuesday December the 2nd, Joseph Lambert came at the Lycée St-Charles, because of his nomination at the Prix Littéraire des Lycéens et Apprentis 2015. Thanks to our teachers, we had the opportunity to meet him during a "private time" at the school library. We obviously could ask him questions that we have kept in our curious minds since we have read his incredible comic. Joseph Lambert answered us with all his sincerity, he took time to make special drawings for everyone of us and to take photos with people who wanted to. He also showed us some personal drawings (we all have VERY curious minds!!).

That was a really rewarding experience to have the opportunity to talk to Joseph Lambert. His singular personality was fascinating and we are all now convinced he is a great artist. We also want to thank him (and his great "team" too) very much for the patience and time he spent with us and for his kindness and generosity. There was a real exchange and we are glad he shared this special moment  with us.
