Volunteer work @ the Mucem

 A summer at the Mucem

Hi Charlie,

So I wanted to tell you about some of my summer (we're almost in summer again so you could say that I am a bit late...)
Last summer (This was a first in Marseille), we (about eight girls from our class) got involved with the International Circle od the Friends Of The Mucem for volunteer work in English.  I should probably start by explaining who  the Friends are. It's a society supporting the museum by carrying its missions mainly to boost the museum's profile  on various scales.
The internship consisted in helping at the Friends' counter in the reception  area of the Mucem. The goal was to get tourist or locals to get a membership to enjoy preferential rates and exclusive events. But the role of the hostess is also to welcome anyone coming to us and answer his\her questions in the best way possible.

So that was in theory what we had to do. Here's what my personal experience was like:
I went about 4 or 5 times with Mathilde or Yasmine, each time we stayed for 2 hours. We had a supervisor if we may call her that. Her name was Roseline, she was extremely kind and receptive to us. The thing is, we weren't very busy as we had a very restricted number of visitors.

Overall, we did get to chat in English even if we weren'talways feeling extremely useful at the moment. We did get to keep company to our nice supervisor who was kind enough to let us visit some of the exhibits we hadn't seen. Mrs. C said that this volunteering in Englsih experience is available again  with extra missions for this summer
I would recommend you doing it because you get to decide how much time you want to invest in this and I personally think that you will be left with a good first (or not) experience.

The Guggenheim Museum

Hey guys !

Today I want to talk to you about a beautiful museum I had the opportunity to discover this summer : the Guggenheim Museum of New York !

This summer I had the chance to go to one of the most incredible city in the world, The Big Apple ! I had a lot of fun and discovered beautiful places that I want to share with you guys. The Guggenheim Museum is one of them ! The Guggenheim Museum of New York (Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to be precise !) is located in Manhattan, near Central Park (pretty good spot I must say !) and is the permanant home of a beautiful collection of Impressionist, early Modern and contemporary art.

Before going into details about the amazing paintings I had the opportunity to see let me just focus this article on the architecture of this museum. The spiral design of this museum changes the presentation of the works of art. This museum really is different from the museums I’ve seen before when it comes to the way the paintings are exhibited.

Many famous artists have some of their work exhibited in the Guggenheim Museum of New York such as Picasso, Van Gogh, Pissaro, Paul Klee, Cezanne, Renoir, Chagall and many others !
My favorite painting in this museum is this one. It’s one of Modigliani best known painting.

I hope you liked my article (if it’s the case don’t forget to comment below) !
See you soon ;)

"Lives of Garbage: The Economy of Waste"

Dear Charlie,
As you know, the International Circle of the Friends of the Mucem invited us to a very special visit at the Mucem.
                                                           International circle
We got to discover the thought-provoking exhibit "Lives of Garbage" and the bonus is that our guide was the unique Eddie Platt who started the One Piece a Rubbish per Day movement in Marseille.

Sorry neither you nor our Première and Terminale students taken up by their bacc exam could make it. But this is likeley just the beginning of a new OIB "mad" scheme.
That was clearly a very inspiring visit and we encourage you to come and have a look at it when you do have the time.

So basically f you have been wondering how Lalita and Lola came up with their latest project, which by the way is a great idea that will  hopefully become a trend, now you know why.

ps: I hope you enjoyed this rare moment when I'm actually promoting garbage. ;)
