My Experience with table top roleplaying and breakdown of the D&D core rule book

Hi Charlie!

So for my second post I am going to describe my experience with the famous American system who is gaining more and more growth even after his great boom. So take this as a quick guide to my passion and a gateway to the biggest table-top RPG system (but most of all a cry for help to find interested people or players). Dungeons and Dragons

So. First you need 3 books, or a starter pack. (but nobody takes those, because lets be real, why spend 50 bucks for a thing that is going to last 2 hours when you can have the whole book.)

The first one is the player’s handbook. I guess you can guess its purpose. This is where you’ll find all the stats for a player. This one is for everyone. To have the stats and the basic knowledge of the game; even if it’s not expected to know everything in details.

Then when have two other books for the GM.

The Dungeon master guide in which you’ll have to read Five-Fudging-Hundred pages of text in A3 format. (holy guacamole goodbye sleep schedule for any new DM) In these you’ll find all of the information to run a game, the core stats of an encounter and of any and all object. Sprinkled with some nice advices on top of that.

And finally the monster manual, this contains all, and I mean, ALL of the different official monsters. which is pretty neat because for once it is even easier than the others to navigate through. It has interesting ideas, all kind of order where they put the 450 monsters. plus there's great art for all of them !

And this is where it gets interesting.
Because… now you have shoved those rules down your throat or next to you, and with a last effort by having to turn on your creativity on.
You,
literally,
have
in-fi-nite possibilities of stories!
And if the number of factors that goes into your game doesn’t satisfy you… You can now create new monsters, new classes, new worlds, new subclasses, new races… YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING AND YOU CAN ADD AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE!!!! THAT’S THE POWER OF HOMEBREWING

Does this NPC annoy your players even if it’s “important to the plot”?
They can do and say whatever they want to him! (Even kill him)

Do your players want just to kill some zombois and skellymans and test their luck with dies?
Throw at them lairs upon lairs filled to the brims to numbers to hit each other’s numbers with!

The ONLY thing you got to keep in mind… Is the fun factor.
Maybe you love world building, but your players just want to roll some dices. So… don’t bother them. And if you can’t stand that, find another group. There are plenty of people!
The great thing about the game is that it is easily and heavily customable to have fun as much as you want. That’s is the best thing, infinite possibilities. You just have to think about it
I personally view it as a well thought out blend between, creative story-telling (to open your mind to new possibilities by having multiple people write the story you give them), a roleplaying experience (a nice and fun improv games that has some restrictions to develop characters, but boy does it develops them) and a table top game (they made rolling dies fun. You just roll dice, roll, talk, roll and talk…).
They all enhance one another to create a great blend.

(plus they made some mor books to help you add to your games. naming a few)

This model of DnD is nice because not only it is a greatly balanced and easily customable module; but what distinguishes it to the others it has premade worlds and you can create any type of game, even if more made for medieval fantasy you can switch the stats to a sci-fi setting. Have more mental focused stats and become a horror Call of Cthulhu type of game.
I am going to stop here or I am going to ramble on forever.

But I wanted to make my last recap of the stuff necessary to understand and/or run a game.
as usual. Watch american dndtubers (youtubers that talk about dnd) this stuff is huuuge over there !

stay hydrated and please contact me if you're interested :,( I will take anything, anyone, I WANT TO PLAAAAAAY
bubye !

Tabletop RPG

Hi Charlie!

So. This is my first (and hopefully not the last) post.            BUT NO TIME FOR DIGRESSIONS!

Like the little dwarves that we are it is time to dig right in!

So…     Tabletop RPG (Role Play Games for the beginners) is one of my numerous passions and it is weirdly known. A lot of people know the concept but a very few people actually plays or know at least the basis.
If you are completely new to the concept here is how it plays out:

For a good RPG session, you need:
-          A table (hopefully everyone here has that because after a moment your back hurts if you stay on
the floor)
-          A GM which stands for Game Master
-          A group of players
-          Add some Character sheets
-          The rule books
-          Some dices and just some random monopoly dices you need to get these bad boys:

 a d6                                  a d4

 a d12                                a d8
 a d10

and if add both you have a d100

a d20                             and all of                            my tiny babies :3

            The Holy Dice Pouch

-          A lot of time, and a sprinkle of planning management

And…
if you’re feeling dangerous…
-          Snacks

Let me explain the specific words I’ve just mentioned.
The players, they are playing (thanks captain obvious) their own characters which they create with the help of the handy dandy “Character sheet” these contains all of the things there are to know of the character. the stats, the back story, the traits, the physical descriptions, his possessions… EVERYTHING
Then you have The GM or DM (Game Master or Dungeon Master) this person is the guy that is the most important with the players. The GM creates and plays everything that is not the characters. Some sort of god because since the GM has absolute control on his creation the GM is, therefore, the bartender, the sun that covers the horizon, the arrow that lands in the adventurer’s knee, the rock that falls and that everyone dies under. EVERYTHING.
The GM has to create a whole bunch of stats and he has notes to keep track of everything but he also has the rule books because such a task is almost impossible and waaaaaaayyyy too time consuming.
And the basis is that every game is different because other players and GM are running it but the “game” that changes is the rule book you use, there are more than numerous the most famous ones being DnD, Path finders, Call of Cthulhu…

And for thins the players have to take some time creating their sheets and the DM the world, the session and reading the rule books WHICH ARE PRINTED IN PAGES FORMAT A3 AND ARE FROM 400 TO 600 PAGES LONG!!!! AND THERE ARE GENERALLY 3 OF THOSE!!!!!!!!         ;3;
But that’s just for the DM…
That’s all for now and in my next post I will talk a bit about my personal experience and the multiple advantages and disadvantages that brings this type of gaming.

I invite you to give me some feedback if you want to know anything or a special type of post about your interrogations about tabletop rpg

PS If anyone is interested in starting this confusing hobby. Well first you can go and talk to me about it, second it is hard to navigate through and third I recommend you to start with some youtube series to get the general idea of the thing “Critical role” the series or the one-shots. (if you don’t have too much time I suggest the red nose day one-shot on the critical role channel)

PS, PS if anyone knows already about it or is interested in starting go and talk to me it would be my pleasure to start a campaign and/or form a group

World Of Potter

Good morning everyone.

For my 1st post on the blog, I've decided to write about the Online Harry Potter RPG Universe.

Didn't you ever dream of going to Hogwarts ? With World Of Potter, it's possible.

But first of all, what is an RPG? It's a "Role-Playing Game", it means that you are playing a character in a fictional setting, you have to imagine a person, boy or girl, that you'll play during your free-time in a fictional world.

Here, the world is Harry Potter's so you'll be able to create a "fake" name and personality. Then, you'll make decisions for your character and talk with other players that may become the "virtual friends" of your character.

Naturally, RPG isn't only creating a fake identity and pretend to be someone else, it's for people who wanna improve their writing by interacting with other players in writing stories and being in harry potter's world in the same time ( who is quite amazing ).

Besides, you can receive an opinion, good ( that will encourage you to continue ) or bad ( that will make you progress by correcting your errors ) from the readers.

Now that you know what an RPG is, I'm going to talk about the world of potter's one.

In this RPG, you start playing a character you created ( name, age, gender, personality ) who is 11 years old ( age of a Hogwarts student's 1st-year  ), then you'll to take the tests to know which house you are ( which is sooo cool, it's just like in the movies ) and you'll have to buy stuff to begin the year, after that you'll learn lessons of the subjects in Hogwarts like metamorphosis, do your homework and have grades just like a real student.

At the end of the year, ( which is 11 weeks ) there are examinations. When you finish your Hogwarts years ( 7 ), you can become a journalist, teacher and many other jobs.

There is a chat where you can discuss with other players and many rooms you can choose at the top of the screen like Hogwarts Express or King's Cross Station and many others where you can write stories/RPG.

But, there are rules you must respect under penalty of being expelled under an undeterminated time.

I personally really liked this RPG because you're really into it and you have to devote a lot of time in homework and lessons so it's just like you're in a real high school and here it's Hogwarts which is practically everyone's dream.

Though, this is the problem, I devoted myself too much on this website until I learned to be organized and found how to be able to distinguish between the RPG ( which is virtual ) and my real life.

I met pretty cool people and spent an enjoyable time on WOP ( World Of Potter ) even if it was hard at the beginning to find free time for my real homework and lessons and the one of the RPG.

And thanks to this website, I learned how to be organized for both and now that I don't play anymore, I know how to have time for work and free-time for my hobbies.

I really suggest you this game because you can talk to people from everywhere who have something in common with you, they love Harry Potter. On the other hand, you'll improve your writing and learn loads of really interesting facts you didn't know in the lessons, like Defense Against the Dark Arts ( and many other subjects ).

Anyway, let me know if you join the community and if you liked this article.

Thanks,
Victoire.
