Ilymun 2017
Hi Charlie,So two months ago, 10 Oib students (Carla, Amandine, Raphael, Killian, Sacha, Juliette, Nadja, Ajna, Tara, I) went to Lyon accompanied by our history and geography teacher, M. Lévêque. The reason we went to Lyon wasn't for tourism (even if we had the chance to visit a little bit!) It was to participate in the IlYMUN conference. This Model of the United Nation had for main theme « Humanities in a constantly evolving world ». Personally, I was in the resource management committee, representing the delegation of Chile. The subject we debated were really interesting as they are real actual issues like managing the issue of brain drain, food distribution or ocean resources. I think all the delegate represented well their country’s position on the issues (sometimes a bit too much ahah). So this conference was really enriching intellectually because of the constant debating and negotiating, but also socially because of the numerous exchanges between students from all around France and foreign countries!

Debate club!
Hey everybody,
I am a Terminale student and took more responsabilities in the functioning of the debate club this year. I really want it to work so that we can all go and participate to a MUN (Model United Nation) in Aix and maybe in Lyon. If you have never been and you wonder what it is, don't hesitate to ask me questions about this event.
Anyway, the debate club is set off again! Our first meeting this year will be on Monday the 5th in the usual meeting room (on the ground floor) at 12.35.
The goal of this meeting is to make a first debate to ameliorate our critical thinking on today's main issues or current debates (all in English of course). It is a fun way to communicate with others while reflecting and convincing.
I chose a pretty simple topic for the first time in order to get used to it and take easily part into the debate :
I count on you to think about this subject, to search concrete examples (countries' legislations, moral and social impact etc) and to conclude by saying "Yes" or "No" (or argumentate well if you can't make up your mind...).
It won't take you more than 30 minutes to do a list of ideas and examples so give it a try :)
If you have any questions concerning the subject, the MUN or the debate club, don't hesitate to come talk to me, Loic or Nathan and we will answer you with pleasure.
See you soon (and you can bring food for the organizers if you want because you love them... just saying (and kidding) ;))

Should weapons be accessible to everyone?

Debating in Aix en Provence
The annual AixMUN sessions are taking place this weekend in the city hall of Aix en Provence.
They are a good way to get involved in some of the most important current global debates, discover new ideas and points of view... and also learn how to defend your own!
This year's main topic is: "How to fight the impoverishment of youth", a critical issue indeed.
Education, poverty, immigration, labor market evolutions and foreign investments were among the most disputed talking points today, by more than 25 different states.

some intense debating going on, during an unmoderated caucus. |
Thanks to the IEP students for the organisation; we'll definitely come back next year!
And special congratulations to Loïc, the Argentine!

Debate Club
Double session!
Monday January 12 and Monday 19, 12.30
The high stakes of climate change
What are the big issues on the table, and is it possible to reach an international climate agreement?
Please send an email to leveque.hg@gmail.com as soon as possible to confirm your attendance and so that I can make a list of countries.
You have a whole month to prepare, so let’s try and make this a bit more formal:
. a few documents have been uploaded on Pearltrees to get you started
. write a short official position paper (10-15 lines) to sum up your country’s position and be prepared to ask questions to other delegates during the debate.
After the 1st session you’ll have a week to discuss these topics with other delegates in order to suggest joint resolutions, lobby reluctant countries and even perhaps propose a general agreement!
