I have decided to talk to you about all the airports that I have been to during my 15 years alive as an active traveler. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost all memory from when I was 0 to 2 years old so I am going to have to skip those parts ( I know, it's tragic...). So today, I am going to start with the one most (most likely all) have been to at least once in our life. I am of course talking about MRS or "Aéroport Marseille Provence". MRS is located about 30 kilometers away from downtown Marseille and it is accessible by car, bus and train from Marseille and its surroundings. As of 2014, it is the fifth busiest airport in France with more than 8 million passengers stopping in Marseille in 2012,because Marseille was the European Capital of Culture.
Most flights that are operated in and out of Marseille are by the French Flag carrier Air France and the low-cost airline Ryanair. From Marseille Provence Airport,you can fly to over 132 destinations all over the world; this is the largest offer of destinations in France after the two Parisian airports; Roissy Charles De Gaule (CDG) and Paris Orly Airport (ORY). The airport was built in the 1920’s and served as one of France’s main points of operation for flying boats, and they are still very common nowadays (they can be spotted on some of the taxi ways).
The airport has two runways built in Asphalt that are parallel to one another. One of them is 11,483 feet long which means that it is long enough for bigger, wide-body aircrafts to land in Marseille. In 2006, the airport opened a new terminal, MP2, that was made specially for low-cost airlines. This terminal has helped the airport gain a lot of passengers because more people are able to fly and go on vacation thanks to those low-cost companies. Recently, XL Airways opened a new long-haul route from Marseille to New York. This is going to help businesses and travelers in and around Marseille in the world move around the world. This airport has been constantly growing for the past 10 years and its growth will most likely not stop in the near future. If I had to to do a quick personal review on it, I would have to say that even if it is not be the best airport in the world, it is very useful to have such an extensive network of air routes just miles away from our houses!
