The Magic of bad movies

 Hello Charlie, after no one recognizing the ICONIC quote "Oh Hi Mark" from The Room I promised to write an article, here it is! 

What is The Room? It's a unique movie that highlights itself for being so bad so so bad, that is actually good. Tommy Wiseau, the writer, director, founder AND main role of the movie has created one of  the craziest pieces of art in the film industry. Now, the story is very simple and boring. Tommy Wiseau, a succesful lawyer, lives a normal live until his wife starts cheating on him with his best friend Lucas. From that moment misery and tragedy will follow Wiseau, as he tries to navigate the challenges of being himself. 

The movie itself it's pretty boring but as for most of bad movies, the lame filming, terrible dialogue and embarrassing acting makes its charm, and for that alone it is worth watching. It has also spawned a good couple of memes and funny scenes out there. 

What's more important is the legacy the movie has, together with Trolls 2, the one from 1990, (I will also write about it) it is considered to be a cult movie in the industry of bad movies. Tommy Wiseau has gained much notoriety and fame thanks to. To the point of another movie being made in homage to the making if The Room, "The Disaster Artist". From what I remember of this movie, it was also hilarious and put in perspective really well the extravagance and presumptuous attitude of Wiseau. 

But who is him?

At first sight he just appeardd out of nowhere but soon enough interviews detangled the mystery of this man, even if his answers seems to reveal more questions. For instance, choosing as an artistic name "Wiseau" to add an elegant European tone to his. I mean, he is Polish-American, but to what extent can we really trust in his words? That, I'm not sure. 

What is also evident is his need to be treated as God, otherwise I don't really see much other reason for him to do this kind of thing. He was probably obsessed with becoming a Hollywood star and he succeeded! His fanbase genuinely loves and praises him, I mean the guy is treated as some sort of rock star band, he even has his own underwear brand (https://www.tommywiseau.com/). 

More fun facts about, he used two cameras to film with two different formats only because no one else was doing it, but I guess he didn't took in account that the movie would go from horrible cheap quality to mediocre quality. 

The movie was made with the incredible amount of 6M of dollars, completely unexpected for an independent movie, even more having in mind the lack of experience of Wiseau. 

In conclusion, I think he's an icon, really. He wanted fame and he got it fair and square. He worked hard for his movie and keeps working, in 2023 he made another movie. Inspired by himself, obviously, and the insane rising popularity in horror movies of sharks and unbelievable sea creatures, Big Shark. 

And that's it! I hope some of you were entertained by this peculiar man and watch the movie, at the risk of having to endure some incredibly uncomfortable sex scenes.
