Hello Charlie, you must know that buying clothes in a thrift store is a completely different experience from going shopping in a mall like “les Terrasses du Port” everything you find is unique and you can be sure that in high school no one will have the same top as you.
The best thrift shop ( to have the best deals )in Marseille ( you may know it) is near rue Colbert beside the “ Vieux Port” it is called “ Boutique Kenza Friperie” the t shirts cost 1.5€ the trousers and jeans 2.5 € the prices are low for a reason, they do not do any selections so you can find things that are stained or with holes, you need to look but when you find you know that it is THE perfect piece.
And you will be happy to know that during the holidays the entirely remade the shop and it is now by colour and they moved things around so it is easier to find stuff.
Here is there website you can check the prices and the location https://kenza-friperie.fr/
Then there is the " Recyclodrome" it is not the cheapest nor the most convenient because it is only open on Wednesdays and 2 Saturdays peer month. But sometimes ( not always) There is free stuff, they have like a big bin where there is all sorts of clothes and you can just take them, they have jumpers, trousers, t shirts, scarfs... You just need to look!
Obviously there is a shop inside but it is a bit overpriced and it is not only clothes.
It is on "rue d'aubagne" so not very far from Saint Charles https://www.recyclodrome.org/
Now the next best one is not at all in the center it is around Marseilleveyre it is a " Emmaus" and one of the biggest in Marseille, the clothing section is huge and the prices are more than reasonable here is there websitehttp://www.emmaus-pointerouge.com/ , you can find all sorts of clothing there is a big shoe section which i recommend because they only cost 5€ and there are some nikes, Adidas, New balance... There is also a big bag section, lots of jewellery ( and books, chairs, and just lots of stuff)
Now on how to thrift: thrifting came take a very long time if you look at every single thing, so to be more efficient the idea is, to have in mind what colours you want and what material you like to wear or how it looks ( real denim, pure cotton...) this is some thing you get use to.
Don't buy on an impulse it can be hard but when you find something you really need to think, am I going to wear this and possibly invent 5 different outfits you can wear the piece with. That way you will be sure that it will not be abandoned in the back of your wardrobe.
I hope you liked reading this article, see you next time!

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this article, I love thrifting a lot but it's complicated to know where to find the shops and how to thrift smartly. Especially if you're still new to town like me !! Next time I go thrifting I'll keep your tips in mind.
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome and i am sure that you will find loads of thing you like at kenza friperie !
Deletehello
ReplyDeletei love your article. it's really interesting. I didn't know that the recyclodrome existed and i was actually looking for new thrift store. I agree with you that kenza friperie is really good i found some really cool pieces there and at very low price. your tips about inventing 5 outfit with a piece before buying it is really usefull because i bought too many pieces that i never worn because i have nothing to wear it with and with your advice i would have saved a lot of money!
thanks for your article
Me to I have so many pieces that i can't wear that i bought like a year ago and like since I do this i only buy one or two things, and you make so many economies its incredible
Deletehey, I know all these and enjoy going thrifing in them as much as you do thanks for this article!!!!
ReplyDeleteeven though I think there are many more you could have added like the ones in "boulevard liberation" they are alike the ones you described I think you should like them..
I actually only went to those once so i don't really know them but I will go as soon a possible because they are really close from the lycée
Deleteyour article is interesting but i think that even when you thift you can have the same clothes that other people have... its a question of trends. All the girls have that same levis jean that they trifted. But i thank you for those tips !
ReplyDeleteVery true about the levi's and trends but you know the cargo trend that went on this spring, summer and now a bit i got one for 2,5 instead of the 30 one s in shops like bershka, stradivarius and other , you just make so many economies
DeleteHiii, i totally agree with you. I love using second hand clothes ( or even objects) because it has a lot of benefits. Not only for you wallet but also an ecological impact, which is really good. I do know that one of my fav thrift shops is kenza friperie but there are two good ones that i would like to share with you. The first one you may have heard of is the KILO MARKET at "la friche belle de mai". You have to sign up in order to be able to get in cause they have so many people they have to keep track. The second one is a little shop called Vin Cult' ( 6 rue Lafon Marseille 6eme). It is kind of expensive but their clothing pieces are AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Any of these thanks for your advice i will check them out as soon as I can
DeleteHi !
ReplyDeleteThis article is great , I've been wanting to buy less fast fashion but I couldn't find any good thrift stores in Marseille , so this is very helpful to me !
Thanks a lot ;)
heyyy thanks for your article! I find it very helpful because I went to several thrift stores with my friends but it was always either too expensive or I couldn't find anything. I always find good clothes when I don't have money on me ;(
