Hi Charlie!
Yesterday, I wondered what was an ecological cellphone and are they some?
So I searched for it and I found something.
Of course, this is said everywhere, the easier way to have an ecological cellphone is not to have one. But in our world where there are more and more cellphones produced, this can be hard to have none, even just to communicate.
So a Dutch company has created two cellphones called Fairphones, a bit better than the other ones (it was not really complicated but still) from a social and environmental point of view.
So they have goals that should be normal but that are not and that are quite extraordinary compared to the other companies as Samsung, Sony or Apple.
Their goals:
- Long lasting products (their phones are the first modular phones so you can replace the parts that don't work anymore and you can keep your phone during a longer time, so better quality, less production)
- Fair materials (they trace every parts of the phone so they know what's inside and we know it too; Transparency! )
- Good working Condition (In order to have a long term relationship with their workers they treat them better, with a salary higher than the others companies and working hours lower; Also they hired people to make studies about workers to improve their conditions)
- Reuse and recycling (they want phones to last longer and they don't want million phones to be thrown away every year so they recycle and the goal would be to use recycled materials to produce new phones; this is better for the environment!)
Of course, this is the theory, there is no real proves that they do everything they promise.
And the phones have bad sides too, they may be less efficient than the others phones: They are sometimes a little bit slower.
The quality of the photos are okay but not great.
There is not a lot of space available and the phones are a bit heavyier.
And they are quite expensive, even if they are supposed to last 3 to 5 years: the old one cost 325 euros and the new one cost 525 euros. But this may be the price to pay for an eco-friendly phone...
Now you know everything about it, the good sides and the bad sides of these ethic and ecological new phones. I'm thinking about buying one, I think that even if they are not achieving every goals that they promised, these phones would still be a lot better for the planet than the other ones.
Tell me what you think about it,
Ps: It has an application just amazing called "Peace of mind", where you choose the number of hours you want to, and then, you won't receive your calls/ messages for the lenght of time that you chose so you can be at peace with yourself!
Bye,
Eléa C.
It's cool to create phones eco-friendly. I think in a few decades more and more people will have one. Actually, I don't find its price that expensive compared to the New iPhone or Samsung which are made in less good conditions. Let's hope it will work as a good step toward saving our planet!!!
ReplyDeleteGood against programmed obsolescence. Too bad they won't get much visibility (at least I think). But I do acknowledge that this is a pretty interesting initiative
ReplyDeleteCan we please talk about the fact that this article is 300% Éléa-certified? ^^
ReplyDeleteIt does look more convincing with the pictures to be honest, I'll surely replace my stupid broken phone by one of these!
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!
Deleteand for your phone it's just helpless you should totally get one of those..
I think this initiative is really important and clever. I already noticed that Germany is a country really involved in ecological resolution and I think that France should follow the same way
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who's been asking for this phone for ages, and I read about it in a magazine ! Hopefully it's going to get more and more known...
