Dear Charlie,
It has been a while since I did not write anything
to you. My holidays were great and I already miss them…anyway I wanted to tell you about an exhibition that
takes place in Aix at Musée Granet and is called American Icons. It is about many
artists from the fifties and so about Pop Art (you know that I really like
it !). There are many artists such as Agnes Martin, Ellsworth Kelly and
Chuck Close but also Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein of course.
What I really liked about it is of course the fact
that I saw the real pieces of art (which are really bigger than what you expect
them to be !) but also that I discovered an artist that I now really
like : Chuck Close.
To realise his pictures, Chuck Close uses a grid.
But first he takes a photo of his subject and then subdivides it into a grid.
Then he paints a portrait corresponding to it. As you might see, the likeness
is striking which is even more surprising because Close has a condition that
makes him unable to recognize faces !
I hope that you want to go and see by
yourself ! (:
Bye
Charlie !
Tara

ReplyDeleteI've got to make sure I go! Meanwhile, there are all sorts of Pop Art programmes on the BBC at the moment, including radio shows you can listen to! I may write an article about it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5pN6fKVhx1wYhVXtkjWwPFS/pop-art-season (Mr Leah)
