Postcard from Edinburgh

Dear Charlie,
Do go to Edinburgh, you'll have a ball.

I didn't know at first which photo to pick for you.

There are so many great places to visit: Edingburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Palace, the Britannia Royal Yatch, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Murrayfield stadium etc..

I almost went for the national icons; there are lots of Scottish flags, bagpipers and thistles around but then it was too easy.

I was  tempted by a photo from the Elephant House where Harry Potter was written.
If you go there make sure you visit the ladies' room. It might be ackward for you but it's worth it.
By the way, did you know that JK Rowling might have got the names Dumbledore and Hagrid from The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy which was on the OIB bacc exam?

The sharp reprimand was not lost upon her, and in time it came to pass that for “fay” she said “succeed;” that she no longer spoke of “dumbledores” but of “humble bees;”, no longer said of young men and women that they “walked together,” but that they were “engaged;” that she grew of talk of “greggles” as “wild hyacinths;” that when she had not slept she did not quaintly tell the servants next morning that she had been “hag-rid,”, but that she had “suffered from indigestion.”

In the end I remembered a photo I took in front of the National Library.
I thought it was a fun and original way to promote Scottish literature, history & culture. I particularly like this photo because it looks like Long John Silver is shooting at Sherlock Holmes. I find it an interesting perspective.

Here's a link that might give you a fair idea of Edinburgh. (Please ignore the musical background)

Best wishes,

ps: Believe it or not Edinburgh can be as sunny as Marseille.
