Hello Charlie, for my first article I am going to talk about one of my favorite songs: Still Loving You by Scorpions.
First of all, if you do not know them, I would like to introduce you to the group Scorpions.
Scorpions is a German hard rock group first created by Rudolf Schenker in 1965.
In 1969 they were six members: Rudolf Schenker (singer), Wolfgang Dziony (percussionist and singer), Karl-Heinz Vollmer (lead guitarist), Lothar Heimberg(bassist), Klaus Meine (singer) and Michael Schenker (guitarist).
In 1972, they released their first album called Lonesome Crow. After that the group members changed a lot and I will not really talk about them because they did not stay in the group for a very long time.
It is only in 1982 that they really become world famous with the release of their album Blackout. Blackout is now considered like their best album.
They then became one of the greatest hard rock groups in the world. They even participated to the US Festival in California in 1983 with Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, and Van Halen.
And in 1984 they release Love at First Sting, and the success is even greater than Blackout with two million of albums sold in the USA in less than a year.
Still Loving You is a song from this album and is considered like the most sell single of 1984 in France with a total of 1,7 million of albums sold that year.
Still Loving You is a hard rock/glam metal song written by Klaus Meine (singer) and composed by Rudolf Schenker (guitar). It is one of the most famous power ballads that they released and one of the most famous in the world. It was one of the biggest hits of the 80s.
The song now lasts 6:26 minutes (which is long) but originally, it “only” lasted 4:48 minutes.
These are the members that played and created Still Loving You and Love at First Sting:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Still Loving You can be easily recognize with its famous arpeggio :
I would say that my favourite parts of the song are the guitar solos which are just incredible and always mesmerize me. And when you look at the lyrics, you can sense that this song is relatable and really describe what you can sometimes feel.
I personaly really like this song because of how well the music illustrates the lyrics and the emotions.
The song’s melancholy fits really well with the confession’s theme. But it is also a passionate song because of how he is holding onto the relationship.
That’s why I would say that Still Loving You is really an illustration of love, because it can hurt you as much as it can fill you with passion and joy.
