The Main Thrift Stores in Marseilles

Hey !

Well, where should I begin… I wanted to an article but I didn’t know on what. I wanted to do something that was useful for you. So, after searching helplessly for a long time. I though to myself, why not doing an article on the main thrift shops in Marseilles. So, sorry for those who don’t live in Marseilles and that don’t come much here during week-ends, but spending an afternoon inthe thrift shops is worthy!

First of all, why should you go in thrift stores instead of going in a long-line store?

Well to begin with, the fashion industry: produces 10% of the all humanity’s carbon emissions, is the second-largest consumer of the world’s water supply, and pollutes the oceans with microplastics. Therefore, thrift stores are an eco-friendlier option. Indeed, it’s based on giving a second life to clothes that don’t fit you or that you don’t like any more. Thus, less clothes are produced so it’s less harmful for the environment than making new ones. For example, making a jean requires chemical dyes, detergent and pesticides. Taking in account that the amount of water that you have to use to make a single jean is around 10 000 litres. In consequence, it's very polluting and a lot of them are produced each year. Moreover, most of your clothes are not made in France, they were made in other countries for probably less than the price of the article you're buying. Besides, people who are making clothes, mostly for long-line store, are usually exploited and some of them are just kids.

I know that it’s hard to find everything you like in thrift stores but if you can try to shift between buying new clothes and buying some second-hand clothes, it’s already a great move for the planet ! Plus, these days thrift shops are very famous because you can find original and unique pieces of the other generations to have a great look with your touch of originality!

To begin with, there are some thrift stores around our high-school, in the boulevard liberation. Indeed, the main one are: "Frip Insertion" and “Association Famille Solidarite et Culture” (oups french). Plus, you can also find some next to the reformers like "Space vintage" (2 rue de la Grande Armée) and a tiny "Emmaüs" in the corner next to the "Danaïdes".

Next around la plaine, in the sixth arrondissement there are (sorry the adresses are in french):

  • "Marcel and Simone" 30 rue des trois Mages
  •  "Chez Coco" 13 rue des Trois magese
  • "Melanie Vintage" 10 rue des Trois mages
  • "Vintage Marseille" 127 cours Lieutaud
  • "Lilou vintage" 1 rue Pastoret
  • "La Coquette", 5 place de la corderie
  • "Dépôt vente Massilia Shop", 2 bis rue Fontanges
  • "Out of space" 23 rue Fontanges

  5. Thank you so much for this article !
I was just complaining to a friend of mine how I couldn’t find good Thrift stores in Marseilles. It felt like they were all too small, very expensive or never opened. So I always used to go to Thrift stores in Paris which seemed more popular there.
Anyway, thank you again for your addresses.

  6. Thank you so much for this, I have been looking forward to thrifting more but I hate to look for shops all around the city. I will definitely check out these addresses as soon as I can because I've always been disappointed in those I had found so far (there were only vintage clothes and they were way too expensive)
