Hello guys!!
So today I am going to present you my favorite book, Divorare il cielo, written by Paolo Giordano, published in 2019 and translated in French by Nathalie Bauer (yes, I'm extremly sorry I've read it in French....).
This story takes place in Italy, where every summer Teresa spends her holidays with her grandmother in Puglia. One night, through her bedroom window, she sees three boys bathing naked in the pool of the villa. Their names are Nicola, Bern and Tommaso, they are "those from the farm" next door.
Teresa will find herself still linked with these 3 boys 20 years later, and will be told in the novel, their story and the adventures they will go through together. For those who appreciate romance, this book has no shortage of it, but it is far from being a silly romance, we will be completly immersed in a madly passionate love story.
Friendship, love, jealousy, hatred, revenge, religion community, return to nature, desire for child, parental responsibility, Divorare il cielo abounds with ideas and situations that made me think and reflect on many debates that are currently agitating our society, reading this book was so enriching!
To be honest this book had a huge emotionnal impact on me, so incredible was the story. Giordano, the author, really has amazing writing skills, which really allowed me to feel absolutely all the emotions conveyed in the text, but what truly amazed me the most, was the complexity of the characters. They weren't perfect, they were humans, with their flaws and their strength, this author's desire to bring this real human touch to his characters is what appealed to me the most in this novel.
Finally, this book will bring you deep reflections, more precisly on the meaning of life.
Here you go with a little quote:
"At some point the leaves curl up, the branches droop, and the plant becomes a miserable thing. Life has already abandoned it. Our bodies go through the same process when the soul leaves them."
Let me know if you've read it or if you have books recommendations, enjoy! :)
