Green book:
Green book is a film, taking place in the early 60’s all
around the U.S.A, who was firstly released on November 21, In 2018. This movie was
produced by Jim Burke, directed by Peter Farrelly and written by Nick
Vallelonga (the protagonist's son).
The film is staring Viggo Mortensen (from Lord of the rings 😊),
as Tony Vallelonga, an Italo-American driver and bodyguard at a night club in New
York, and Mahershala Ali as Don Shirley, a famous African-American jazz
musician, with classical influences, that is struggling with personality and
alcohol issues. We can see both those characters below.
Those two characters, will come together when Tony will be
hired as Shirley’s driver during a tour, leading to a chock of culture, Tony being
close to the popular culture of the Bronx and Don is closer to the classy world
of music industry.Indeed, as the two character are traveling around the U.S.A, we can
see Tony’s point of view regarding of Afro-American people changing, as he is
creating strong bounds with his new friend.
The title of the film, “Green Book”, comes from a real book
that existed, this book was made for black travellers, as it was classifying
the different motels that were authorised for “colored people”.
This film makes a perfect combination between humour and an
important social message, as it’s giving us a serious moral on the state of
mind of certain states in the U.S.A regarding of the black community, that can
be memorable to any person watching the film. And all of that with a “Feel good
movie” background, setting us in a perfect mood for a week of OIB homework!
Interesting and complete review !
ReplyDeleteI saw the movie and loved it. It shows, with both humor and sadness, the adventure of two characters from different social classes and different cultures in an very hostile environment (southern states of the U.S).
Now for some constructive criticism: You mentionned Tony Vallelonga's point of view changing throughout their trip, but what about Don Shirley ? To me, Don having been used to not being understood, didn't accept Tony's point of view at first, but at the end, accepted his welcome and found a place where he wasn't judged or treated differently.
You're right! Don shirley does change a lot to, and in a very nice way.
DeleteI agree it's a very good movie , glad it made it's success at the Oscars , for someone who already saw the movie , you could've given us more of you opinion or a bit of analysis because you left me dry with that bit at the end . I found that it's a quite rich movie so the interpretations could be quite interesting :)
ReplyDeleteGreen book is one of my all-times favourites, so I think writing about this movie was a really good choice! Apart from being a very interesting movie that is about a serious problem that should’ve never been one, the cinematography is great! I also think that you could’ve gone into more detail about the way it was filmed and about America at that time. Overall, even if it could’ve been a little more complete, I really enjoyed this article!
ReplyDeleteVery good movie !!
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked about it is on one hand the serious side of the movie, wich is talking about the segregation all around the southern part of the U.S.A and on the other hand the kinda humoristic little parts of the movie, wich I liked !!
And of course very good actors !!
