The Overwatch animated shorts: Blizzard catching up on Disney?

Hi there Charlie!

So after more than one year, I think you know me quite well, but there is one of my passion that I haven't talk to you about: Animation.

Now of course I'm not an animator and I don't have the skills to become one, but I think this medium is just great for so many reasons. From cartoon, to animes, I've been into this thing since my dearest childhood. But one thing drove my attention. As you may know, Blizzard Entertainement (the creators of Warcraft, Hearthstone or Starcraft) dropped a massive bomb in the e-sport world with their latest game: Overwatch. Now I won't go into much deatils about the game, it's basically a FPS MOBA (First Person Shooter Multiplayer Online Battle Arena for those who don't know) with diversified characters where each of them play a role. But what is most interesting is that Blizzard decided to announce each new character with an animated short fully made with animation. And it just looks FANTASTIC! Now of course, the point of the thing is to present the character, show their ability, so there is not much story, but what is crazy to me is the animation, it just looks so beautiful that often people compared Blizzard animations and cutscenes with Disney. No more talking here are some examples:

Dragons, my favourite short so far. The end of the fight always give me gosose bumps...

The Last Bastion. for many people this is the most poetic and the most beautiful one, really impressive in my opinion.

Infiltration, the last one yet which presents Sombra, the latest character.

Honestly I could watch them again and again, I'm so happy that a game developer is taking so much effort into this kind of things. There are some other shorts, but I just give you my favourite ones. I do think that if one day they have the budget, Blizzard Entertainement should really release a movie based on the story of Overwatch.
I'll end my article here. Hope I could share with you something interesting. Bye bye Charlie!

P.S: If you want to see something that looks a bit more "realistic", here is a cutscene from Diablo III, realeased 4 years ago by Blizzard.
