My "own Bible" - Rookie Yearbook

Almost one year ago now I went to NYC, which means that almost one year ago I found what I call my own Bible. What is a “own Bible” ? It is a book which is, according to you, what contains the truest and most interesting ideas/statements/ways of thinking. I think, it can change through your life (actually you can have many), but you will always remember and keep the ones you choose near you (or in mind).

So, I found my own, as I started to say, in NYC last year. In a matter of fact, I already heard about it and this is why I looked at it in the bookshop there (I knew the cover and wanted to know what was in it).

As I am writing, I notice that I have not given you the title yet! This is: Rookie Yearbook. There are three volumes of it (the 4^th is coming soon, yayyy!). This book gets everything I need (and needed at the time), but as I won’t be able to present it without going crazy and  a bit too excited (huuum…!), I’m going to write what sums up Rookie Yearbook One (written at the back of the book).

“ROOKIEMAG.COM IS A WEBSITE CREATED BY AND FOR YOUNG WOMEN TO MAKE THE BEST OF THE BEAUTY PAIN, AND AWKWARDNESS OF BEING A TEENAGER. WHEN IT BECOMES THOUGH TO APPRECIATE SUCH THINGS, WE HAVE GOOD PLAIN FUN AND VISUAL PLEASURE. WHEN YOU’RE SICK OF HAVING TO BE HAPPY ALL THE TIME, WE HAVE LOTS OF RANTS, TOO. EVERY SCHOOL YEAR, WE COMPILE THE BEST FROM THE SITE INTO A PRINT YEARBOOK.”

 

Like it is explained it is, at first, a website edited by Tavi Gevinson (Goddess on Earth, also seen as a young activist woman who understands everything about life and people).

Rookie Yearbook contains what every teenager needs:

• to open his/her mind on EVERY VITAL SUBJECTS, such as music & movie references, famous (or not) people’s experiences, answers to a looooot of questions…

• to boosts himself/herself for when he/she feels like his/her entire life is falling apart, but at the same time he/she knows there is worst in the world (so basically… not comfortable AT ALL).
  

• But, for me, what is the major point of this book, is the importance they give to ORIGINALITY and PERSONNALITY. Actually, they help me finally cut my hair (really, really) short, visit different countries in the same year, wear my fake fur at school, create a feminist project with my classmates… and who knows what other ideas it will give me! IT MAKES ME WANT TO DO WHATEVER I WANT, BE/ACCEPT MYSELF AND OPEN MY MIND ON LIFE!!!

 

Plus, as you might have notice (or not) this is mostly a girly thing, BUT I really think that boys could (and should) read it too! It is so mature and intelligent that anyone should get a bit of it!

I wish I had written a better article on my own Bible, but I’m afraid it will have been really messy! So, think about it and come talk to me if you are interested in it (I will be better at given an oral explanation I think)!
