Late is better than never right? So here comes the next episode. Today I will talk about a band wich is doing Black Metal. Yes, I know that when you read the name, you may think "guh... inaudible sounds incoming!", and... You're wrong! Again, I'm here to destroy clichés, and today I'm going to talk about a German band.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
So PowerWolf as I said is a German band of Black and Power Metal. They are quite young in the metal universe, in fact the band was created in 2003 by 2 old friend: Charles and Matthew Greywolf (those are pseudonymes, even thou they looks strangely alike, they are'nt brothers).
As always I won't talk about the history and the members of the band because there is nothing special to say. So let's move on to the music!
PowerWolf... Ah PowerWolf... One of my favourite band. They don't really have a special composition like Turisas, but they do use an organ. So of course they're using a keyboard and not a real organ (but if one day they use a real organ... respect to these guys!). But where I think it's important to stop, is the voice. so here is this guy:
This is Attila Dorn, the singer. I talked about the strange voice of Chrisopher Bowes, but I didn't talk about a guy who can SING LIKE AN OPERA SINGER IN SONGS THAT TALK ABOUT WERWOLVES!
So yeah, it's diffrent from Alestorm, but PowerWolf can be quite something in term of epicness.
Now, for those who (maybe) know this band, they know that there is something that makes them famous, their lyrics. As I said, there are talking of werwolves and romanian legends, but they are also known because they write a lot of song that talk about christiranism... Yeah I guess you can see where it's going.
So, to simply says, Powerwolf talks a lot about Christianisism, and generally it's not glorifying it. But it's generally in a very clever way: for example there are many songs where they are criticizing Middle Age Church and Crusades. And well... some are just pure blasphemies, like the song called Resurection by... well, search the end of the title on YouTube ^^'. And this image give them the name of "Black Metal Band", in opposition to the white metal (it doesn't deserve capitals, really this is just bad from my point of view).
Well, it's time to end this article. I really conceal everyone to listen at least one time to PowerWolf, they have songs of a very good quality (all in English!); but honestly, if you are a catholic or a religious person... I don't really conceal you to listen to this band, your faith may not thanks me ^^'.

ReplyDeleteI made up my mind, I'm going to talk about a band which assume at 100% their style (50% Rap, 50% Metal). But warning: I don't know them very well and... I honestly don't like them (it's a kind of old-school rap which sounds like 90's music to me).
ReplyDeleteThey are quite controversial in the Metal world because... well... Generally Head bangers don't really like B-boys (it's not my case).
So yea, I'll do my best to do something good ;)
