Margaret Hamilton, the “terrifying actress” by Mathilde C

Today, since I have to write an article about whatever pleases me, I have chosen to talk

about Margaret Hamilton. She is a literal icon and that’s why I had to write about her (I think)

Fascinating story.

So… Born in 1902, in Ohio, Margaret always (basically since her birth) dreamed about ONE

thing: becoming an actress(especially in romance films). BUT. And this is a big but. The

casters all send her home on the pretext of her rather imposing nose.

To raise her son alone, Margaret begins to accept all the roles she has access to (villain

roles, you guess). Later, she's auditioning for a big movie(you see the move coming) and

she terrifies the casters with her demonic laugh so she got the role. Accessorized with a

false nose, a false chin, and covered with a layer of green make-up, the effect is striking. But

the poor woman had to endure one more suffering…

On the set of the famous "The Wizard of Oz", the actress catches fire. Once this (not a small

one can say it) adventure, the film leaves, and another problem surfaces. Margarete scares

the children too much: they all come out traumatized from the cinema and half of the scenes

where she appears are then cut (yes, all this work for this ending).

Finally, she realizes that her real talent is to scare, so, thanks to her exceptional gift, she

signs contracts and ends her life doing what she loves.

Margaret is a strong woman and should be a role model for everyone: she proves to us that

pursuing her dreams can be complicated and long, but that perseverance is a key in life. I

read this story some time ago and it was a pleasure to revisit it.

  1. I also read that thé paint tainted her face and her hands during a long time after the incident but I didn't know about her scenes getting cut. I feel so sorry for her, she didn't deserve this. But the fact that she stayed strong and pursued her dream after this is impressive, I respect her so much !!!
