LICORICE PIZZA
Hello ! Today I will talk about my favourite movie of 2022.
I saw it with a friend a few months ago and I left the room full of emotions. Today I'm going to tell you a bit about the story and what I liked and I hope it will make you want to see it.
Production and realisation of this movie :
filmmaker : paul thomas anderson (screenwriter, director and producer of North American cinema)
music : from Jonny Freenwood
production's country : U.S
two main actors :
-Alana Haim
-Cooper Hoffman
Now let's talk about the plot !
This movie takes place in the1970s, Gary Valentine(Cooper Hoffman) lives in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles. A child actor benefiting from a certain celebrity, the 15-year-old teenager has charisma to spare. During an event, he falls in love with Alana Kane (Alana Haim), a 25-year-old photographer. But she refuses to give up her heart to him because of their age difference, but agrees to become his friend. The movie then brings us to all sort of experiences and memories with these two characters.
What did I like about this movie ?
The story was full of emotions and what I really liked about this film is that it's a soft and brutal film at the same time. It refers to all this nostalgia of the 70s but in a positive perspective and plunges us into the loving and friendly story of Garry and Alana. Indeed, Garry is madly in love with Alana who seems not to pay attention to him but is actually very attached to him and to his nonsense and follies that she seems to see typical of adolescence, this "puerile" and still too "childish" age. This attachment is also found when the two characters had to use a truck without fuel to escape from the house of a rather not so nice director. Alana drives the truck and when they reach their goal, we can see the girl sitting on a sidewalk watching Gary dancing with his friends like a child after winning a game. This moment is very strong and it shows the separation between the two characters and at the same time the intense bond they have. Because, despite his childish side that Alama seems despised, she cares a lot about him. Moreover, I felt a real message in this film, a sort of reflection on the criteria of society and what it forces us to love and think. Indeed, these two actors do not embody the ideal of Hollywood stars and actors but it is precisely what makes us attach even more to them. Their flaws are clearly exposed, but this film feels like an idyllic love story where you just wish you could be a part of it and enjoy life the way they do. Ultimately, this film is, for me, a way of saying that you have to take advantage of every moment, that you have to run, dance, and return to the true pleasures of life, and not get lost in a ideal life that would give us the temptation to become withdrawn within ourselves.
The music and the slow-motion shots are for me the hallmark of this film, which makes us forget everything around us to immerse ourselves in this atmosphere of the 1970s.
Here are the different songs that really stood out to me when I saw the movie:
But You're Mine (Sonny & Cher)
Slip Away (Clarence Carter)
July Tree (Nina Simone)
Stumblin' in (Chris Norman)
Life On Mars ? (David Bowie)
I hope it will make you want to watch it! I highly recommend it to you !
