Basketball isn’t a sport, it’s a lifestyle. This sentence might sound like propaganda but it really is my mindset about Basketball. I discovered my passion in 7th grade and it has supported me since in every aspect of life. Every time I feel bad I play the ball and it really helps me clear my mind by focusing on the ball and the hoop.
On another level, Basketball is a useful way to master social interactions and it gives you multiple tricks to cope with frustration, anxiety, tension and anger. Indeed a Basketball player is susceptible to go through all those feelings in one single game. Since my young age I was facing those feelings every weekend and it became some kind of routine. This routine helped me work on self confidence. This phenomenon is a key factor in basketball. You can be the best technically or physically if you don’t believe in yourself you will never be able to win anything or to realize in game situations. This key element is for me the hardest thing to work on. It requires a constant questioning of your mindset, objectives and way of working. You need to create mentally and physically create an environment that is going to help you build a personal approach to this sport and after that you will be in the ideal conditions to win matches and trophies.
Moreover, Basketball is a team sport and from my opinion this aspect is the most important right after self confidence. You can’t win anything with a team that is only an addition of individualities. You need to work together in and out the court. A team where teammates are hating each other will never win as much as a team which has a good atmosphere. If I can give you any advice to build a positive and friendly atmosphere, it would be: Try to learn your partners on a personal plan, try to learn their weaknesses and key strengths, sympathise with them and
ask them to teach you or inversely. All those little things are assets which are going to level up your team coherence.
When I was younger, I was only focusing on the game but now I took a step back and realised that my passion isn’t only about the game but also about the borders and the rules it helped me build and I’ve now realised how different my life would’ve been without Basketball, I don’t even think that I would be writing this article. This text is only my personal appreciation of this sport but if it can give you the envy to play then go on and enjoy.
hey! as a retired basketball player (lol) I really admire your love for basketball and how you show the differents qualities it can bring. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks my G. I've seen in EPS that you are not really retired, you can still humiliate Baptiste and Nathan.
