What blinds us.

Living in the world of today, everyone can agree the human generation is no longer what it used to be. We are more advanced than yesterday but less than tomorrow. With that, just as with everything, comes perspective: some have a negative way of seeing all this tech and development, and some see it as a part of the human evolution, or simply for the "greater good". And of course, having a negative point of view is not wrong, instead, when the reasons are shared with others, it can convince other people too. However, toxic points of view can influence in the wrong way, and sadly, this generation, otherwise known as the "gen z (1990's till the early 2010s)", and the "gen alpha (2010s till mid-2020s), who sadly grew up watching YouTube or TikTok (not all but still a majority), were taught at a small age what is "beautiful" and what is "ugly". Like, for beauty, it's anyone who has a fairer color of skin, a beautiful face, and a well-kept body. But is that really what the term "beautiful" defines? Yeah sure you will see people saying "Beauty is from the inside, not outside", but did you ever wonder if they themselves believe that. It'd make a great change if people normalized everything related to the human body as beautiful.

Beginning with a common thing almost everyone does, some more than others: comparing yourself to a certain "beautiful" person you know and would want to look like. Do you compare yourself, any of your features, to someone else's and think that "yeah that person is definitely better than me" or "they are smarter than me, I could never". If you do, then think about those things again, think of them as the cons, and change them to pros, nothing is impossible. So you're not smart? But why don't you see the efforts you already make. You're not beautiful? Do you have a big nose? Crooked teeth? Hip dips? Thick thighs? Some might be confused about what I'm saying here, but these are just some of the insecurities teens have these days. And why is that? Because they saw someone "better" than them. If we all have one heart, two lungs, one body, and one brain, why do we compare each other? What differences do you find apart from your physical appearance? And that is what blinds us.

We should normalize being different. In fact, beauty should only be limited to the point where you want to make yourself better for yourself not for anyone else. Forget everyone else, imagine that you are the only one living in the world, how would you live your life then? Yeah, I for sure would smash a big window, always fantasized about that. However you imagined yourself, try doing it in this life, but on a side note, I personally don't think anyone would fancy it if I broke their window. Just do what you wanna do as long as it stays legal! Don't let anything put your hopes or spirit down. You are the best for you, don't care about what they say. Don't be blind, open your eyes and see the beauty of everyone from within.

So, basically, to sum it up for people feeling lazy to not read the long essay (I'm sorry, not sorry), just be you, live your own life, and don't let anyone rule your life. Don't listen to anyone's dumb lies that you are not beautiful, because you know you are. And most importantly, if you think pretty girls should have crystal clear white teeth, a perfectly thin waist, and a perfect high look, or if handsome boys should have a perfect visual, muscular or anything close to sporty, we all can see you need to visit the 'Therapist for perfect beauty thoughts Pod 101'. A pretty girl can have any color of teeth she wants (except black, we won't talk about that-), any size of her waist, and look like a normal human girl and not some canvas with makeup used as if Bob Ross was painting it (no offense it was just a joke-), and a handsome boy can look like a normal human boy, can be skinny and can hate sports for god's sake!

  1. You're calling out the word and I'm ready for it. You've really portrayed how does it feel to be a teenager nowadays especially when we're too much exposed to social media and I think that this article can help many people who are feeling insecure about their apparence or who's lacking self confidence. Thank you Laiba

  3. As the well being club leader I can only approve your blog. Self acceptance is something really important in life and I really like the way you broke clichés about men and women.

  4. I'm happy to have made the effort of reading this blog because it was scary at first sight.
I believe it's impossible to think completly this way, culture will ALWAYS have an influence on what we find beautiful. If you look at paintings from centuries ago, you will find that the women tend to be considerably heavier than what we now consider to be ideal.
And also I think you should seperate :
-things we find beautiful (like flowers or art)
-and human beauty which is sexual attraction that started biologically (of course since we are intelligent we improved our standards to more than just a good reproductive mate).
So to summarise I think we can't truly detach ourselves from the culture's point of view on beauty and the biological's one. However this is a good ideal of beauty we should tend towards.
