International Day of Peace

Hello Charlie,

If you didn't know, today, Wednesday 21 September, is the International Day of Peace

Every year on Sept. 21, the United Nations and people all around the world celebrate the International Day of Peace. For this Wednesday’s celebration, the UN will support the push toward world peace with the 2016 theme, “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”

The day is devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
There are many ways to celebrate peace: from meditation groups, peaceful marches, art exhibitions and educational conferences. There’s even a Peace Day Global Broadcast streaming online all day to give people a look at how others are celebrating throughout the world.

Here is a video you have to watch about Peace Day:

Massive John Lennon painting pays tribute to International Day of Peace:

Eric Waugh, a Guinness World Record holder, is marking the day with a 2,500 square foot painting of John Lennon.
It’s the “world’s largest painting on canvas by a single artist.”

9,000 Fallen Soldiers Etched into the Sand on Normandy Beach to Commemorate Peace Day of 2013

British artists Jamie Wardley and Andy Moss accompanied by numerous volunteers, took to the beaches of Normandy with rakes and stencils in hand to etch 9,000 silhouettes representing fallen people into the sand. Titled The Fallen 9000, the piece is meant as a stark visual reminder of the civilians, Germans and allied forces who died during the D-Day beach landings at Arromanches on June 6th, 1944 during WWII. The original team consisted of 60 volunteers, but as word spread nearly 500 additional local residents arrived to help with the temporary installation that lasted only a few hours before being washed away by the tide.

  1. This is a beautiful article :) However, I think that the Day of Peace is more hypocrite than useful...I see it a bit like Day of Woman : why a day? Is a day enough and useful to change things, sensibilize people ect? I think not. It is even more hypocrite today when migrants are killed at countrie's borders, France is bombing Syria...EVERYDAY must be DAY OF PEACE
So of course i don't blame you at all, but the people who instaure this kind of hypocrite celebration day
    Anyway, Peace&Love ^^ <3

    1. 100% with you, it's part of the things I don't understand. But although that's hypocritical, I found the "drawings" on the beach really touching and powerful.
