Oh, I see you coming, we are not going to visit any old castle or listening to some traditional big pipe (Even though I love the instrument), but we are actually going to set sails with 5 pirates. Yes my friends, today I'm going to talk about Pirates, Metal, Rum, Beer. I'm going to talk about my favourtie band of all time. Yes, you guessed with last espisode's clue, I'm going to talk aout...
Wow... You guys can't know how excited and happy I am to talk about them... Without no more talinkg, let's get into it!
So the BeerStrom (Ale is a kind of beer) is a band of Pirate Metal (what a coincidence!) formed in 2004 in Perth, Scotland. There first name was Battleheart, but they changed to Alestorm in 2007. I won't talk much about their story, but I'll just say that the only permanent member is the singer, Christopher Bowes, who's (and by far) the carziest!
So, now let's talk about music, but first just a little word: Alestorm (and particularly Christopher Bowes) does have a HUGE sens humour, and an enven bigger "2nd degree" (I'm not sure if it's the exact translation...). So please, all they say (principally about alcohol and piraterie) are purelly humour and the lyrics are using purpously to fit to their universe (just protecting against censor).
So first, let's talk about the music. Well, I won't lie to you, in term of instrument originality, Alestorm is way behind Turisas, but they have some interesting things. The band is composed by a classic metal trio (Bass guitar, electric guitar and drums... Oh and by the way, the drumer is a pure genius!), and their singer is also a keyboardist, he does all the "classic" part of the music (achordeon, trumpet, bagpipe...). They may looks like a classic formation, but trust me, they are quite unique. Also, to talk about the singer, I'll be honest: his voice is everything but nice, and this is why it's awesome!
So right now (it's 8:51), I'm completly exhausted, so I'll just conclude.
To finish this article, I'll say that Alestorm is quite a gold nugget in the metal universe. Some of you may have heard them in the episode 35 of What The Cut by Antoine Daniel, and they gained a lot of popularity in France thanks to him (all hail the final boss of the Internet!). Right now, Alestorm is continuing to gain in popularity, and his talent is (finally!) well known by pretty much everyone. Also, Alestorm is a band who doesn't take anything seriously, and this is why they are so... so... so Alestorm! and we can see this aspect by their parodies or even some of their musics. I'm sorry, but I don't find any honest critics to do on this band (but I'm open to everyone's opinion).
So, I won't make you wait more, there are my favourite sounds by Alestorm! But before we get started, I have to say one thing:
Teacher of the OIB section, I'm completly ok if you censor one of my article because I'm swearing, bringing an unpopular opinion, but please, do not censor this article because the band talks about alcohol; even though I do not drink, this is a subject like any other (and to me, they are treating it way better than the actual pop stars). Here, I just want to share my passion for a band which is not ver known and make people discover new things. Thanks.
This is one of their most famous songs...
I hesitate a long time before putting the video,
but it really add something to the song.

Nothing to say, except this is one of the best song I've
ever listened!
ever listened!
Apparently this is a parody of Lady Gaga's song...
But it sounds great, and looks pretty... strange and awesome!

Celtic Power is here my friends!
Definitly sounds better than the original
The last one, I promise
Yes, I know there are many things, but if I listened to myself, I would have put them all! ^^'
This is everything for me. May David Johns blesses you, and I will leave you with a little question to know which band I'm going to talk about next week:
Would you like to have the Power of a Wolf or the Force of Dragon?
It has been Kellian, and I'm out!
\m/ (>_<) \m/
Maybe you could make a comparison between them ? No but seriously, I don't know. I'll leave this choice to others.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing I have to pinpoint is : why do people never EVER talk about Wolves of the Sea ? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOr7c7ybAgE) It's so amazing, both my younger sisters have been forced to
A) know it
B) learn it by heart
C) love it
because I listen to it so often ^^'
Yes I forgot!!!!!!! Sorry! But you know, for now I only have their 2 last albums (Back Through Times and Sunset On The Golden Age). I've listened to Captain's Morgan Revenge and Black Sails At Midgnigh many times, but I honestly don't remember all titles from those albums
DeleteHello Kellian,
ReplyDeleteWell, some of us are getting quite a musical and cultural education, thanks to you...
You seem to have a hard time grasping what can or cannot appear on the blog.
Don't worry about the topic.
Drinking alcohol is part of our society so regardless if you drink or not and approve or not, it is logical that it will appear in art. Besides, I think it goes with the band's piraty act in this song.
Referring to alcohol on the blog is not a problem as long as you are not advocating heavy drinking and encouraging people to go on a binge and you clearly and rightly said you weren't.
To be honest (even though I make alcohol), I'm completly disgust by the image that society spread about "with alcohol, it's always more fun". Of course drinking is part of our society, but I'm quite a sensitive person when it comes to that topic. But seeing people who use it as their image doesn't bother me at all, and i hoped you weren't too...
