Dead by Daylight

So, I might be taking some time to write the blogs about movies that are so bad that they're good, but I wanted to take a detour to present a masterpiece of a game. Dead by Daylight.

Every new year I have the tradition of buying two new games (they have a Christmas discount) that I will be playing all year long. It's great because it avoids me to buy too many games throughout the year and I end up having a super cool library in my Steam account in the long term. I also share them with my brother so this is literally me at the beginning of 2026:

This year I bought Resident Evil 2 remake and Dead by Daylight.

I've honestly been waiting to play another RE game because the 4th one is just so nostalgic to me. It was 100% worth it since I love horror games.

And while I was searching for other games and crying at the prices that ranged from "no way this is this cheap" to "how is this not cheaper?!" I stumbled upon Dead by Daylight. Of this game little did I knew, but I was yet to unfold a hidden gem. Only heard of them due to the Stranger Things collab they did back in 2021 and the new one. After some fine and thorough research I decided I needed to play this amazing game.

                What is Dead by Daylight?

This is a multiplayer horror game, where team work makes the dream work. 4 survivors will have to help each other escape from an island while being chased by a killer. To do so, they have to fix five generators, that will power an exit door, scattered all over the map. Meanwhile, the killer has to chase and kill them. One hit will make them get in the "hurt state" which makes them move slower, the next hit knocks them to the ground. So the killer can pick them up and hang them in one of the many hangers that are in the map so that they can be sacrificed to the Entity. A mysterious creature that will kill the survivors. Each survivor can get hooked and saved only twice, the third time they will be directly murdered.

What makes this game fun and worthy of your time?

First of all, each play is different. Depending on whether you are the killer or a survivor and of the level of the gamers around you. Even depending on the map, and they sure have some crazy maps. The Silent Hill one is insane, I always get lost!
(this map)

Next, there is a vast catalogue of survivors and killers with different perks and actions. Depending on what they do, you have to adapt a deferent strategy. For instance, the killer I hate, despise more than anyone else, is the one from the Tokyo Ghoul collab. He has tentacles that can hold you and catch you from far distances. Even though he is considered one of the worst killers, I really struggle with him.

(here is me getting murdered by Kaneki from the Tokyo Ghoul collab)

Which is another peculiar thing about this game, they have pretty cool collabs that keep the game alive. I was afraid the server would be dead when I bought it, but with all the activities they do, there is a lot a players actively playing it (me included now!!).

Going back to strategies, this is another thing that might appeal your attention. Killers play in first-person and thus have a restrained perspective whereas the survivors play in third-person and are more aware of their surroundings. This make a huge change in the game, as the beginning of the game is as pro-survivor as possible but this will change as the game goes on.

Another important gaming strategy is team work, because some people are nasty enough to never help and go on with their life!! Which is very enraging but well that's it. You also have the classic "tea-bagging" gamers that won't doubt to humiliate the killers if possible. So, all things considered, you still rely on the people you're playing with or against to enjoy the game.
Also, I forgot, but there is a score at the end, so if you're competitive and want to smash people this can also attract you in the game!!

Here you can see a pretty mediocre play by me! (Lara Croft!!)

This is very biased, but I bought it with the Tomb Raider 2013 extension, the 2013 Lara Croft has to be one of the most legendary characters for me growing up, and even though the critics about her were mixed (might even do an article on the decline of the trilogy), I got her only for the skin. I wouldn't recommend it, since her perks are not the best in the game, but what can I say? She looks so so cute!!!

I could go on and on about all the perks but honestly I wouldn't be doing them justice as I'm still a big amateur in this game and don't know how to properly play! But seriously, you should check out one of the many gameplays out there, this game is really difficult!

In conclusion, horror games are my comfort zone and whenever I can find myself shaking and screaming every five seconds with my lungs filled of anxiety, I recommend them (even if I'm aware they are way scarier games than RE).

I'm planning on buying Dead Space and the classic Silent Hill next year, but drop any recommendations, I'm all ears!!
Hope you enjoyed this article! See ya at the bingo!! >:b

  1. Oh oh oh !!! A dead by daylight article !! Yay !! I played this game a bit with the Xbox gamepass ( I don't have it anymore) but it was pretty good. So for games recommendations, since it seems like you are focused on horror games, I will only give recommendations about them. First, Dead Space is pretty good, but don't forget to buy the remaster from 2018 ( I think) the graphics will be better. And when you say " classic Silent Hill" be careful. It depends. Return to Silent Hill got a remaster ( which you may want to buy) but there's a movie coming to theatres soon, and if you wanna watch it, it may be a problem...

Ok ,no, the actual recommendations : I recommend SOMA , a 2015 game , that explores at which point humans can't consider themselves as humans anymore. Very good, acclaimed by critics, and very philosophical, even though it's not the best horror.
I do also recommend the Amnesia Games, such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which is know as one of the most disturbing games of all time, philosophical too, where we play someone becoming crazy exploring his mansion to go to the basement,as he has, you guessed it, amnesia while being hunted by monstrous creatures. The graphics are a bit old though, but it's still considered a very good game, a legend, in horror games, something you should play once.
One of my personal favourites is Outlast (20€)( I might make an article on it, even though I haven't played it) : it's a 2013 horror game by Red Barrel which aged very well ( the graphics are still good, even today) which is very known for also being one of the scariest games of all time and being very gory ; you play as a journalist called Miles Upshur that enters an asylum to find the truth about the company behind it, Murkoff Corporation. But you soon find out the patients have escaped from their strange therapy, that it is too far to go back, and there's something not human here... The game is full of bodies,or what's left, and is famous for his stalker enemy, which always makes spectacular entrances 🤗. The screamers do not repeat themselves, and the story is great. Actually, they have made two other games excluding the DLC, which explore this dark universe. Oh, and almost everything disgusting humanity has to offer, you will find it in this game.

Now, for the last game I would like to recommend today ( you better read all of this !), it is SCP : Containment Breach (≈15€ euros I think, it's an indie game so it's cheap , but idk maybe it's free). If you are not familiar with the SCP universe, you can anyways appreciate it, and I have made an article explaining the basics, but it's about us being a Class D, a prisoner made for testing if you prefer, in a very secured place you where armed personnel are sending for a test with an anomaly called SCP 173, which they contain with various others, a creature that breaks your neck if you don't look at it. Fortunately , various scps suddenly breach , and you find yourself in the dark, trying to escape from this gigantic place, where various creatures are roaming. This game ,made in 2013, isn't the most beautiful, but this isn't what we are looking for in this game. ( it does kinda look like an upgraded version of a PS2 game, with good image quality but not the highest detailed model for humans) ( I play a version of it on my phone, for free, and it works very well). The game reintroduced or standardized some mechanics, such as a timer for blinking ( yup, it's one of the main elements of the game), endurance for running... It is considered as a game that shaped a lot of games after it, is scary, diverse ( the SCP universe counts ≈ 10000 SCPs, but there must be thousands you can interact with in the game, each having unique mechanics) and it makes it a reference in horror games.

I hope you liked reading my answer, sorry it's a bit long , but I didn't really have a choice if I wanted to give you good recommendations. Thanks for reading ( I hope you did it)
