Why you should play Omori:

Hi Charlie,

Today I'm going to present to you the video game Omori and why, I think, you should play it! First of all if you are a fan of video games you might've heard of it before since it's a pretty famous game for being very psychological. It has a pixelated style and a kind of hand drawn style for enemies and characters (while in a conversation). It also has great original music with some of my favorite being: World's end valentine, Duet and My time. You can also check the full OST playlist on Spotify and Youtube if you like game music! This game also has 5 different endings but it's mostly the Hikikomori route where you explore more of the Dream World or the Normal route where you kind of do half Real World and Half Dream World. It comes in 4 different languages : Chinese, Korean, Japanese and English and can be played on computer, Xbox, Switch and Playstation. It's pretty recent since it released in December of 2020. But this game is mostly known for it's incredible story which is basically this :

 

 

 In this game you play as Omori which is called Sunny in the Real World. You start by appearing in a white room with some objects : a computer, a light bulb, a cat called Mewo, a tissue box, a sketchbook and the door. By selecting the door you meet 3 other characters called : Hero, Kel and Aubrey. They are your friends and were waiting for you to go meet the others at the picnic blanket! When you arrive there, you meet Basil and Mari. You play Hide and Seek for a little while but then Basil got kidnapped. So there, the game can teach you how to use the combat mechanic which is based on feelings. Each of the characters help with putting a certain feeling on the enemy by using their skills. After defeating the kidnapper (aka your first enemy) you go to Basil's house where a photo drops out of his photo album and then he remembers what it was and then the screen goes dark and you wake up in the Real World. It was your dream, a place where you feel safe and try to escape reality. After this the main plot of the game is separated in 2 different realities to uncover the “truth” to the player. In the Dream World Basil is gone missing and you have to find him back. On the contrary in the Real World you can enjoy your last 3 days before leaving the town with your friends if you chose a certain answer on the 1st day. After this it goes deeper in the story and is becoming way more interesting so I suggest at least going until there. 

 

 

 

 

 

The characters are :

Omori or Sunny : Is the main character, he's more introverted, shy and quiet. He mostly listen when his friends are talking. Even though he doesn't express it a lot, he really enjoys his time with his friends. He is Mari's little brother and is best friend with Basil. He also enjoys playing the violin. He has short, straight black hair. His outfit changes depending if you are in the Dream World or Real World. 

 

Basil : He's a pretty shy and got introduced in the friend group the latest. He enjoys taking pictures to remember his happy memories with the ones he loves and also enjoys gardening and even attributed different flowers to each characters. He has short hair (either mint colored or blond depending on the World your are in) and wears flowers in his hair. His outfit is different in the two versions.

Mari : She's the kind and gentle character. She really enjoys playing the piano. She's in a relationship with Hero. She has long straight, black hair and usually wears a purple jacket on her dress.

Hero : He's kind of the peacemaker in the group. He enjoys cooking and baking. He's also Kel's older brother. He has short brown hair. His outfit is different in the two versions.

 

Kel : He's a very happy character who has a lot of energy. He enjoys doing sports. He has medium length brown hair. His outfit is different in the two versions.

Aubrey : She's a very cheerful character who is also very energetic, she's also very emotional. She has long hair (either purple or pink). Her outfit is different in the two versions.

I really enjoyed this game's story line and plot twist. It is a pretty sad game despite it having very bright colors, and overall cute appearance. It also has some very funny moments in between the deep ones. I just warn you before starting it, because the game has sensitive topics so be aware of it. But if you are interested in those kinds of psychological story-typed games I highly recommend it!! And please tell me if you enjoyed playing or watching it!
