Hi Charlie,
Today I want to talk about a video game that honestly amazed me, Hollow Knight.
There are a few things about this game that are awesome, for you to understand them I'll have to quickly explain what's an independant developper:
An independent developper is basically a team of people creating a game without any financial aid from any bigger company, that means less budget but also less time constraints and no obligation to make a game that will generate millions.
The team that created Hollow Knight is made of only two developpers William Pellen and David Kazi, they started by lauching a kickstarter wich worked really well. With the kickstarter money they were able to make Hollow Knight, because creating a game is an enormous amount of time spent not "working" or earning money.
Now, about the game: it's a metroidvania-like game (2d platformer), you control an insectoid named "The knight":
You will explore an abandonned kingdom full of secret (there could literally be a secret behind every wall you encounter) and you learn about it's history. The game contains many bosses who are pretty hard to beat, especially if it's your first time playing a metroidvania-like game. I personnally spent more than 80 hours exploring all of it...
The game is incredibly cheap compared to the amount of work it requested to make it. Some others company would have been asking something like maybe 50-70$ for it whereas it's developpers put the price as low as 15$ (all DLC included).
I know this article sounds like an ad but it's really an incredible game, the amazement you feel when exploring the whole map, the excitement when you encounter new ennemies and the joy you feel when finally beating a boss after 5 hours (not kidding) are just the best feelings ever.
I could post an image of the full map to impress you but it would spoil the fun of discovering it, so instead here's one of the cutest Non-Playing Characters (NPC) in the game:
Goodbyeee
Video games are not a thing that excites the most BUT really, your article was so captivating, and I do not exaggerating (not even a little I swear to you) my enthusiasm, that I really enjoyed learning more about it! So thank you for your review=)
