David Firth is an animator known for his recognizable visual style and a strong sense of humor, and nowhere is that more apparent than in this short film Cream – in the film, the large hadron collider is responsible for creating a miraculous cream. Any issue at all – acne, scars, general ugliness – put cream on it and it’s solved. You won't be surprised to hear that the film takes a dark turn, but there’s a constant stream of dry humor throughout that makes this a classic Firth film.
in this film david firth introduces us to a miracle product named "cream" which can fix anything , the person in the movie shows us the effects of "cream" by fixing a womans face and making it more beautiful then shows us how it can fix a broken nose , and suddenly jumps to a amputee regrowing her limb by using cream. It doesnt take long for someone to question how is the even possible. he gives a very vague answer on how cream finds problems in the brain and fixes molecular structures.
The ramifications of such a creation are fun to toss around, and Firth spends a good chunk of the film just hilariously riffing on the potential applications. Employing a simplistic layer-based animation style.Firth not-so-subtly skewers societal attitudes towards beauty and success, throughout the film, though ultimately weighing in on the side of “Cream” being a tremendous force for good. Of course, this is not an acceptable outcome for our corporate overlords, whom, driven by the profit-potential of human immiseration, marshal their considerable powers to destroy the product. l
when i watched this video it was at the surface a silly and comedic and a bit sad but when i thought about it a bit more it came a bit more clear of how this is related to politics in one way or another.i recommend you to watch it and make your own theories!
I just watched it and discovered David firth As you say, many theories can come up related to politics or other and you need to think about it. If nobody told me to go further than the dark comical aspect i would have probably not considered it, thinking about it we see how people are almost controled by medias and that they can make believe whatever they want, david firth quite succesfuly transposed real life with exageration into an animated short cut with an absurd cream that solves everything
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to discover other people who know the fabulous animated short film 'Cream.' The uncanny style of David Firth is so nice. I also recommend 'Salad Fingers,' a wonderful web series that he also created. It's a little older, and the style is very different, but it is still very nice to watch.
