Hello everyone!
There are a lot of great articles on this blog, focusing on very different topics such as body image, medias, trips, artistic references and recommandations, etc... But today I wanted to talk about something I haven't seen much here: veganism.
Veganism is a lifestyle in which people don't use or eat any animal products and products from animals' exploitation. It promotes animals and environment's protection and also a better personal health.
I know that there are many vegetarians in the OIB and I adopt their way of life too in September 2015. I used to love meat and liked fish, but when I came back from my trip to Thailand, where I had eaten a loooot of everything, I felt bad. Bad in my body and my mind.
So I tried to be vegan, but my parents didn't really agree with that because "I had to get animals proteins to grow up and be healthy". I find a compromise and became vegetarian. I have to admit sometimes it was frustrating to eat vegetarian sushis when my family ate delicious tunna and salmon, but I remembered, I thought about these animals and of how I felt after one month of non stop eating of animals products in Thailand. My frustration went away and I ate (and enjoy) my delicious vegetarian meals.
After months and months of negociations, researchs, etc, my parents finally let me Go Vegan!
I have to say that it is hard enough to be vegan because animals products are everywhere! So it demands organisation and control, but it might be worth it! I also have leather shoes (that I am still wearing)... My mom asks me like 103 questions a day to make me see that veganism isn't THE answer to environmental issues, health and animals freedom. I agree with her, but if we can try something new and see where it gets us why not (obviously if there isn't any dangerous things linked with it)? I wondered what is the point of eating animals products when we discovered that we can live and be healthy without it. If it is for the taste, just go on Youtube, watch a video of animals meant to be eaten and you will be so disgusted that the taste will only be an old idea.
I don't have the absolute truth coming out of my mouth and I don't know if veganism is the answer to everything (it certainly is not), but I want to try. I invite you to watch a video called 101 Reasons To Go Vegan (it is long enough, but also very interesting) and to read what is on this website: https://www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/why-go-vegan .
I am not telling you what to do with your life of course, but just think about it. About what would you do to change things. Please let me know what you think about all this vegetarian, veganism, etc thing!
Bye xxx
Juliette
Oh my god, I didn't know your goal was to be vegan ! :O okay, I started thinking about it quite a while ago and decided I'd try, at least once, to only eat vegan food for a week, but if you can please help me to both find the motivation for it and ideas of what to eat, I'll be soooo grateful !
ReplyDeleteDo whatever you please, I'm way too attached to meat, fish and cheese to go vegan, or even vegetarian. But somehow it makes me feel better to see that all vegan aren't people that are like "omg, you're not vegan, you eat dead animals, monster!". It's like if a good part of the internet agreed to say that you guys are like "the nazis of the environement", even though I don't know where it comes from... But I have some problems with the people who says that vegan is "healthy"... Human body needs proteins to function, proteins that you can only find in meat. So yes, vegan can be healthy only if you use good complements (feel free to prove me that I'm wrong, I'd be curious to see the counter arguments).
ReplyDeleteBut since I like to exagerate and ask dumb questions: What would happen if the whole world turned vegan?
One thing is sure, that, environmentally-speaking, human beings eat far too much meat. It's very very difficult to get the right nutrition on a vegan diet, so be careful!

DeleteI think that it's courageous to try veganism but I also think that it is too much rules that one has to follow. I think that there are too much excess today whether it is on the industry of products made of animals or the choice to go vegan. For my part, I care too much about cheese and milk-chocolate to go vegan or even vegetarian (even if I do agree that vegetarianism is a really good thing) so I eat less meat and fish and check where they come from.
ReplyDeleteThere's one think that I just though about...maybe we should all go naked because children are alsmot enslaved to make our clothes...
Keep smiling!
I personally think veganism is a bit too much. Of course, you do what you want, but I do not actually think being vegan is the right thing to do... I'm all about vegetarianism though !
ReplyDeleteHi, I don't really know what to think about being a vegan, though I admire persons sticking to it…
ReplyDeleteThe documentary “Cowspiration” could actually be the perfect reason for me (and pretty much anyone) to go vegetarian, at least, but things such as my mom not getting why I would suddenly change my habits or the fact of having to find out special recipes and adding more supplies to buy for my mom are sadly restraining me. That way I think that I'll gather informations that would help me having a deep motivation about being vegetarian when I'll leave home and free to eat whatever I want without annoying my mom ( I just noticed that there's a lot about my mom x) )
Well, this article was interesting and I hope it'll help others the way it brought me back to reflection.. ^^
I admire vegan people. I’m vegetarian and it is quite difficult, not for me but for my family ( Making dinner, isn’t quite simple for my parents ) and you have to be careful, you can’t just stop eating meat like that. You have to find other things to complete your diet. But being vegan seems even more complicated : how do you do when you eat outside ? How can you live without eating chocolate cake !!!!! I know that there are vegan recipes but still… Well , I really understand vegan mentality and respect it but I don’t think I’ll be able to be vegan.
