Dishonored
Dishonored
is a first personal action-infiltration game, which takes place in
Gristol, the capital of the Empire of the Isles. In this game, you
play the Lord-Protector Corvo Attano, who is sent in foreign islands
to seek help to cure the rat plague, a mysterious disease that is
slowly destroying the population of the island. He comes back in
advance, and witnesses the assassination of the empress he is
supposed to protect, a crime for which he is blamed, and sentenced to
death.
First
of all, Gristol's atmosphere is really unique. It is a purely
steampunk ambience, but the touches of superstition and black magic
that punctuate the story makes this ambience special. The characters,
which aren't really out of ordinary, all appear to have their little
secrets, which the player will take pleasure to discover. Plus, the
lore of this game is present in nearly every aspect, which makes you
a part of this world.
Then
comes the game itself. The great point of this game is the liberty
given to the player (which is unusual, given that this game is only a
semi-open world). For instance, If you need to get into a building,
you could kill every single person on you way and get in through the
main door, or climb to the rooftops and get in by an open window.
There are enormous amounts of possibilities, and as Corvo can use
black magic to enter animals or human's body, or even to stop the
time, missions become your own playground.
Finally,
the graphics are really good, and given that the textures are
basically scanned paintings, every single view becomes an artwork.
The character modelisation is also brilliant, because it is inspired
by real people, but water-painted to make them like the rest of the
background.
To
sum up the whole review, Dishonored is almost the perfect
action-infiltration game, and has got a wonderful atmosphere that
will stick you to your screen. The only thing that could be done to
improve this game would have been to replace the semi-open world by a
true open-world, and maybe to make it longer (15 hours for your first
exploration and a good replayability is never enough for such a great
game !). Anyway, this game is surely worth its price (Which has now
dropped to a reasonable one), and you should buy it !
Goodbye,
and see you next week !
