Dear Charlie,
I hope you had an awesome Christmas, and I wish you the best for this new year !!!
May all your dreams come true !!!
Today, I watched "Cyberbully" for the third time, and it was still as brilliant as the first time I watched it haha !!!
I thought I should write about that because cyberbullying is such a big issue today, especially in the USA, and this film is based on a true story from what I remember. I know it's not really in the Christmas spirit but I really wanted to talk about it !!!
The story takes place in the United States of America and is about a teenage girl that gets bullied on the internet. It all really started when she accepted a friend request from a boy she didn't know; who was in reality a fake account. She falls in love with him and tells her private things about her and her life. A few days later, this "guy" starts spreading rumours and posting nasty things about her, and tells everyone about her private life. Since then, other people spread more rumours, and she gets a lot of hate. The teenagers from her school bully her too. She tries to commit suicide because of it but she fails, thanks to her best friend who stops her just in time. The end of the movie is basically her mum and her trying to make a law pass in the state they live in, in order to officially "punish" cyberbullies.
I don't want to give too much details about it, because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet, but we find out that the fake account that spreads rumours about her is a person she likes a lot, and we don't expect that at all. I found this movie interesting because today a lot of persons are being hated on on the Internet, and mostly anonymously. This often leads to self harm and sometimes, suicide. So please, watch your words, and watch what you post on the Internet, once it's posted, you can't take it back because people can copy it etc...
I highly recommend it, if you wanna watch a sad movie, it will make you cry a lot, and it's available on Youtube, in English ! I'm sure you want to watch it now haha !
I hope you enjoy your last days of holidays !
I think it is a great idea to show the dangers of socials networks.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiphaine, I read your article and I found it really interesting and, as Loic said, it's important to show the dangers of Internet, especially of socials networks because mostly everyone has a social network account and we can be "touched" by cyberbullying. Or we can also put someone in danger, for example, sometimes we put some photos which are not ours and it can create problems for the person who took them, or who was on the photo. So, I totally agree what you said in the whole article.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right now I want to watch the film so much haha !
Bye :)

ReplyDeleteI saw that movie three or four months ago and I really liked it. It shows the reality of cyberbullying, a crime a lot of teenagers are victims of. I think it is good to show and raise awareness among (young) people because we don't talk much about these ways of bullying, however it exists. Today, a lot of young people spend a lot of time on their computers or cellphones, and they become a target for the people that become brave and mean because they're behind a screen and they think they can do anything without being punished.
