Grab some popcorn it's the AWARDS !!! 🍿

Hello there you beautiful people !

I'm Marwa and I'm in terminale , you probably don't know me yet so I hope you'll know more about me and what I like through my blog articles :)

Since it's almost the season ,I thought it would be nice to talk to you about award ceremonies!! I'll talk about the Oscars as it is the most glorified in importance and is considered as the big League .

                                the Oscars !

When you hear an actor has an Oscar or has been Oscar nominated you immediately think they must be really good at their craft . I say actor but it's not only them , we often forget that cinematographers, directors , writers ,make-up designers , editing and everything that includes the production of the movie is rewarded as well because what's an actor without their script and and a camera ? Anyways , I love the Oscars and I often spend days watching Oscars marathon where I watch the entirety of the previous Oscar awards , so many good movies and funny moments , it just makes you feel nostalgic and warm :)

The Oscars have many many wonderful parts that make the ceremonies amazing , you have the host : they have a monologue , they make the audience laugh and have many skits , they basically make sure everyone is having a good time . Then you have the presenters : they present the nominees of each award category . Also, there's the AMAZING reactions of the winners and the funny ones of those who lost haha and finally there's the speech of the winners , they always make sure to say something funny and inspiring :)

The host :

The Oscars have always invited some hilarious hosts , 2020 was kind of an exception after a scandal with Kevin Hart , he backed out and the academy preferred to have no host but an ensemble of comedians like Tina fey ( SNL legend) Amy Poelher and Maya Rudolph . They were absolutely hilarious and really started a good show .

My personal favourites are Ellen DeGeneres , Whoopi Goldberg and Bob Hope . They are what I view as the excellency of Oscar hosting .

Ellen DeGeneres hosted two times , first in 2007 then in 2014 . In Her second time, she was staged several viral and charming jokes, including delivering pizzas to audience members and staging one epic selfie that would go down in history. Who doesn't love an Oscars host that brings pizza and takes selfies?

The most retweeted selfie ever , it's obvious since it has Jared Leto , Jennifer Lawrence , Meryl Streep , Bradley Cooper , Brad Pitt , Angelina Jolie , Julia Roberts and Lupita Nyong'o!!

Bob Hope is the undisputed king of the Oscars. He has hosted 19 times even before the Oscars were even broadcast on television. For a long time, it was just assumed that Hope would host, and only if he had conflicts would they ask someone else.

He's made the Oscars what they are today, and is the quintessential Oscars host even receiving a medal from the Academy in 1966 for his service to the show and for that, he absolutely deserves the top spot.

Finally , Whoopi Goldberg made history as the first woman to host the Academy Awards solo and the first African American to host ever . As if that wasn't historic enough , she killed it in her 4 stints as Oscar host , never shying away from wearing a funny outfit or using audience members for gags.

Favourite winners :

I can't talk about the Oscars without mentioning the exquisite Meryl Streep , she has been nominated 21 NOMINATIONS jesus Christ , there's even a running joke in each monologue about her infinite nominations . She has won 3 Oscars WOW and is the second actress to have 3 Oscars after Ingrid Bergman . But the legend Catherine Hepburn leads the way with 4 Oscars .

Leonardo DiCaprio is a famous win because he has been robbed from so many Oscars , he could've won one for the wolf of wall Street , aviator , Gangs of New York , Romeo and Juliet and so many more but he finally got one for the revenant in 2016 , everyone went crazy because he really deserved it and he finally broke his Oscar curse haha

And of course he used his speech to talk about climate change because it's freaking Leonardo DiCaprio.

Most recently would be Joaquin phoenix , he won an Oscar for Joker , I'm so glad he's finally recognised for the absolute genius he is ( read my article I don't Joke about joker to see why :) )

Denzel Washington for "training day "

Sean Penn for " Mystic river"

Julia Roberts for " Erin brockovich

Halle berry for "Monster's ball" second African American to win an Oscar after Hattie McDaniel .

Marion Cotillard for " La vie en rose" absolute legend

Frances McDorman for " Three billboards outside Ebbing Missouri "

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST , my absolute favourite and one of the actors I adore the most is the exquisite , beautiful and brilliant Cate blanchett !!!!!!! She's a freaking legend , she won her first Oscar for playing Catherine Hepburn in "Aviator " then a second Oscar in 2014 for "Blue Jasmine" she's a brilliant actress and an even more amazing person .

A quick mention of the Oscars unforgettable moments

1. Sidney Poitier made history by becoming the first African American to win an Oscar for best actor for his role in "Lilies of the Field" in 1964 . He said in his speech :" it is a long journey to this moment " , in that same ceremony he won a lifetime achievement award .

2. Charlie Chaplin gets the longest standing ovation in Oscars history in 1972 . He was handed the Lifetime achievement award for his incredible career , it lasted 12 min !

3. Marlon Brando gets political in 1972 , he won an Oscar for The godfather , he didn't go to the ceremony . Instead , he sent Sacheen Littlefeather , an Apache actress and activist for Native American rights . She declined the award on his behalf and talked about the misrepresentation of Native Americans in the film industry.

4. Hitchcock has the shortest award speech in history , he just said " Thank you " and left , the Terror wow

5. Roberto Benigni is considered as the most excited man to win an Oscar , he won in 1997 for "life is beautiful" he jumped when he found out jumped from Chair to chair and went absolutely mad .

6. Personal favourite and absolutely historic is when Kathryn Bigelow ( was James Cameron's wife) won a best director Oscar for "The Hurt Locker" , it only took 82 years but the academy finally awarded the best director Oscar to a woman in 2010 , she became an inspiration for female filmmakers and as she said in her speech : "it's the moment of a Lifetime ".

That's all ! Sorry for this long blog , I'm a big movie buff and I won't stop talking about it if you let me haha anyways I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed telling you about it , I highly recommend you to watch some Oscars videos  , they have a YouTube channel where they show winners speeches and monologues , some funny and inspiring moments , you won't regret it ! Thanks Charlie and my beautiful friends ❤️

    1. Sadly , even if he's out from the film industry , women are still discriminated against , especially the women behind the camera : directors , producers and many more :/
