More and more poetry, hooray!

Dear Charlie,
As you and likely every one else well knows, I loooooove poetry!
The traditional Asiba poetry competition is once again organized.
The theme this year is GREEN in any way you'd like to see it.

I know how creative you all are and how well you can write and I hope that many of you will volunteer poems. The closing date for submission of poems accompanied by the entry form is Friday February 28th 2020. The precise instructions have been posted on Edmodo.
Hopefully many students will want to participate as we all know how creative they are and how well they can write. Poems are to be posted in a comment below my Edmodo post by FEBRUARY 9.

Eight book prizes will be awarded to winners and runners-up, four in all in each section, and forwarded to referent teachers at their schools.
The book prizes in 2019 were poetry collections including A Poem for Every Day of the Year edited by Allie Esiri and The Rattle Bag edited by Seamus Heaney and Ted Hughes.
Initial judging will be by panels made up of teachers from OIB/ASIBA schools. Each panel will judge a batch of poems, randomly selected, and make up a shortlist for the final judging. The overall judge, our Cambridge inspector Mrs Celia Donovan, will select the winning poems.

You simply cannot pass on this amazing opportunity for more poetry and creative writing, can you?

On a more practical note, the deadline is February 4th, however, we need to vote in each year group for the poem that will represent the 2nde, the  1ere and Terminale so our deadline is January 28th, do  write these dates down.

Poetry competition

Dear Charlie,
Time for more poetry. Yipee!😀
The Asiba poetry competition deadline is looming.
This year's theme is Seasons.

The students have produced beautiful poems💓
I need help selecting the ones to ones to send off., please vote for your 3 favorite poems! 😊
Here they are:

POEM 1:

Global warning

Here they meet again
Again where they used to meet
In this typical fall, on this simple bench.
The leaves are falling now
The colored flowers are gone now
The only thing left is this sophisticated wood
Tear down by the seasons
Going from the cold winter when arms heat its wood
Giving its place to spring with its beautiful vivid eyes
Embracing summer and the warm sun shinning
Through the branches of the trees surrounding
To this.

Everything ends now.
Winter feels as sweaty as June
And spring cries the colorless flowers
On this bench remains.

Same for the lover birds
Yet they first met there;
During the smallest day of the year
Warmth is always needed
Creating acquaintance and words
Into connections with the world
Growing as the heat
Going from cuddles against the cold
To kisses surrounded by birdsongs
Or fresh flowers in a bouquet
To surprised picnic sunburned
But the sun is still burning after two mouths
Bodies are suffocating
Encouraging tensions in couples
Increasing and then crushing

In this typical fall, there is no simple bench
Where they meet again.

POEM 2

From Winter to Winter...

The window is open,
Emulsion.
A soft wind is hunting winter.
Wild, audacious
Organism which knows when to stop,
Which knows where to be reborn.
The rain fertilizes hope,
and releases the monster.
It is now time for nostalgia,
Mostly due to the departures
of those friends of the year.
Pink cheeks lying under the sun,
My body like a used towel, is
Trapped into the washing machine
Of this unstoppable adventure;
My mind like a star, is still
Shining for moments that will
Never come back.
But it is already time to start again,
Mixed between the joy of some reunion
And apprehension of what is now meant to be abandoned.
Motivated to succeed, prepared for the next ordeal,
The question is no longer on how but
How long should I stay strong?
Prepared to keep my eyes opened,
Months are long,
Good events anesthetised,
And I am now holding my breath,
While nature is loosing hers.
Here we are, it is war
That we must face now.
Exhausted by the wind,
Mutilated by the cold,
We are fighting to appreciate what have survived.
A quick look to your neighbours,
A quick look to your son,
A quick look to the sky
To realize that at least human presence is not gone,
Because human activity does not stop

POEM 3

Clouds of tin

She had upset nerves, her elbows, ankles where itching
she felt like swimming in steel. Impossible to move, no sidetrack to her
crowded thoughts, melted needles,
guilty flows, helpless enemies

It's a willow-tree she said,
It carried her sorrow, when her harms used
to break over to much sorrow.
As soon as the three heard her speech
all it's branches began to grim.
As soon as the three heard her hustling cries,
all it's leaves began to drown.

She had elusive eyes, lachrymose gaze.
Her roots were forgotten in sand.
Lost in front of a field of possibilities, of dream she could have.

It's a willow-tree, it's an open window
Blooming with him, stealing some of it's
air. Some of it's strength.

It's a willow-tree that borrowed her sorrow
and helped summer find an open door

POEM 4

Chapters

Watch the blazing queen
Sun, holy priestess
Dancing on top of the flames
Offering us warmth and cloudless days.

Chilly ambered Spring now awaits,
Pumpkin spice, cinnamon taste,
Crimson leaves, misty mornings.

Desolation calls upon the skies
As general Winter cold as ice
And mother nature fearless knight
Ravage our wandering star.

The time now comes
For Spring is revealed
Flowers bloom, puddles rise
A small breeze, bumblebees.

Watch them pass, child
Watch the seasons go.

POEM 5

A summer in Iceland at midnight

The cliff, enlightened
By the pale glow of the night.
The puffins, slowly starting to get tired.
The grass and moss, as green
 As the spring's ,
Bluntly agitated by The strong wind.
The whales and seals,
Swimming as much as they can, in the choppy sea.
And far away,
The great Snæfellsjökull,
Still plenty of daylight.
This is a summer in Iceland,
At midnight.

POEM 6

Winter

When the sky is gray and the

Weather cold, we wear
Wool sweaters to keep us
Warm. The
Wind blowing freezing air
Waltzing with the trees
Which have lost their leaves.
Wolves in the wilderness,
Welcoming snow with pleasure.
White landscapes and endless silence
Water turning into ice as if
Wizards were playing with magic.
 Worries gone, mindfulness achieved
We shall never
Wake up from this
Wonderful dream

Enjoy!
Mrs. C.

POETRY COMPETITION FINAL CHOICE URGENT

Dear Charlie,
I am to send the poems for the poetry competition tomorrow.
First of all, many thanks to the  OIB poets who contributed.
Could you &  the OIB community (Teachers & students) help me choose which poem to send?
I'm warning you this is no easy choice. Our poets are very talented.

SELECTION 1 POEM TO REPRESENT THE PREMIERE AND TERMINALE STUDENTS

POEM 1
Stone by stone they built me up, with shards of metal spiking up
I lied strong under the starry sky
And as the hot pale globe rose
Began the massage, the dance
Now I'm old and I remember :
Those children crawling on my back
Now they've been replaced by crust and dust and plants
And just like me they disappear, my
World is crumbling, myself
I've lived my life but now…
In this forest, where I was born
I recognize nothing, I forgot all
I am only an old bridge crumbling down.

POEM 2
Drowsy steps

All sounds confuse to found
A fluid melody
From whose timbres confound
To flow mellifluously

One step on the Bridge

From the whistling wind
Pounding on the outside
To the steady breathing
Rhythm of the other side

One more step on the Bridge

To the curtain of mist
Thickening in the mind
Spreading through the body
In your veins like blood and then

One step further on the Bridge

Appear some images
Patches of illusion
And all of a sudden
A dream rises

One last step on the Bridge.

POEM 3

Over water and over land
They hang.
They symbolize greatness,
Elegance, change,
But few are the people
Who see them
For what they are.
Few are the people,
Who in bridges
Will see brick, metal,
Or the calculations
Put into every square inch
Of these man-made paths.

SELECTION 1 POEM TO REPRESENT THE SECONDE STUDENTS

POEM 1:
The old rainbow

The sun is rising slowly, hidden
behind this monument of another time.
When the sunlight caresses him, my raining days are forgotten,
but he is always white-faced especially at wintertime with his coat of icing rimes.

From the bottom, he looks massive.
Bystanders are crossing him, tired, pressed and impassive,
Tarnished by the years and yet sublime,
He is the witness of the passing of time.

Now that the sun has disappeared to let
The darkness live, the stars are shining for him,
The milky way has laid down on him,
While I'm listening to the babbling brook, the silence's threat.

No bystanders anymore, only me and my loneliness,
Silently shouting in that peaceful hell.
The shadow of the thousand-year-old structure is trying to swell,
To protect me from the ghosts of the night, I'm fearless.

Either with the painted sun or with the blue moon,
I'm here, like a root of the Earth, seing the stream of tears,
And his roof like a rainbow, linking the two edges of the river,
Like a vein linking the heart to the head, the Bridge.

POEM 2

Bridges of Love.

When I'm thinking too much
and my head is too full
too dark
too deep
and I wonder about life and anxiety.
When I am felling dark and twisted
Anger in my head
Eager to get on the other side of my sorrow
The bridges we build help me get through
the black hole
of loneliness.
I won't fall into the water
underneath my feet, only sweet memories
Like a cloud fill with drops of love
It's a path made of our tenderness
When I'm feeling blue
Tears filling my eyes
Can't see where I'm heading
Lost in my scary thoughts
Bonds in my head help me
and when I'm on our bridges nothing can get me.
There is a secret bond, a felling between us,
Hope I won't fall and forget
Cause without your love
I will sink in my sea.
