Do you really know about the asexual spectrum?

Hi Charlie!

I’m really happy right now because I’m writing my FIRST article, do you believe it?

So, I’ve been reading a lot of articles on the blog, and I saw that only two articles out of the 900 that we can find here are about the LGBTQ+ community. It made me a bit sad, so I’d like to add mine :)

I want to tell you about the asexual spectrum, I hope you’ll find it interesting because it is.

First, being asexual means that you don’t have sexual desire, but there are different ways of not feeling sexual attraction for people. (By the way, in this article I’ll use the short version of asexual: ace.)

The ace flag, beautiful isn't it?

Now that the most important thing is clear, let’s begin with the spectrum (there definitely won’t be the whole spectrum because it’s huge and it would take too much time to describe all the “shades” of the spectrum).

The greysexuality (or graysexuality):
Someone who is greysexual can feel sexual desire for people really rarely and only in some circumstances.

Their flag.

Demisexuality:
Someone who is demisexual will experience sexual attraction for a person, only after making a strong emotional connection with them.

Their flag.

Fraysexuality:
Someone who is fraysexual feels sexual attraction for someone that they just met, but this attraction disappears once they know well the person. (This is the opposite of demisexuality.)

Their flag.

Apothisexuality:
Someone who is apothisexual is respulsed by sex, they're also called "sex-respulsed asexuals".

Their flag.

Lithosexuality (or akoisexuality):
Someone who is lithosexual feels sexual attraction for people but doesn't want it to be reciprocated.

Their flag.

Thank you if you've read the whole article, it's really nice of you. I hope you enjoyed it!
You can leave a comment to ask me a question about something you didn't understand, I'll try to explain it in a different way.

Have a good day!
Simone

PS: If you are ace, you are VALID, you are not broken or i don't know what else, you are normal and people don't have to think that you're strange or tell you that you are sick, you are VALID.

  1. Yeah! I'm so happy that you chose to write an article about that as I really enjoyed it when you taught the class about that. I loved learning so much about that spectrum and I think it helps us being more respectful of every sexuality when we are informed about them. So thank you for this great article ;)

I really liked talking to the class about the spectrum so yeah i was like- "Why wouldn't it be a subject for an article?".
I'm so happy that you enjoyed learning about the ace spectrum :)
And you're totally right when you say that it helps us being more respectful, I hope my article can open minds and interest people, and it might even help someone discover that they're ace, it would be awesome for real.
Thank you for you comment :)

I really liked talking about the spectrum and doing searches because I didn't wanted to say something wrong and it makes me SO happy that you liked the article.
I tried to talk about as many sides as I could but actually a LOT of sides are not in the article because there are SO many sides, and there are also people that just define themselves as "asexual" and do not want to be in a category :)

  3. Wow! I did not know that there was so many type of asexuals! Again, categorize people is not so good for some people, but knowing all of them is relevant and opening-mind too! I remarked that the white "colour" came back multiple times, is that a coincidence or it is deliberate?
    Thank you

    1. Yesss, I know that some people don't wan't to be categorised, and it's totally fine, but I also wanted to explain some sides of the ace spectrum, so I created the article.
For the white color, actually it comes in a LOT of LGBTQ+ flags, it symbolises allies :)
      Thank you for your comment!

  16. This was a very informative and colorful article (adding the flags was a brilliant idea) You are absolutely right to insist that everyone is valid and that no one should feel ashamed of who they are whoever or whatever they are. But in my opinion, this applies to everything not just gender or sexual orientation. I'm really glad if this article is giving you and others a sense of recognition especially if you feel/felt you do/did not receive it. But, if I may, do not rush to label yourself, it's too reductive. Everyone/everything evolves and that's what makes life interesting and a one of a kind journey.
