Hello Charlie !
It's been like, more than a year since you have heard from me,
don't worry, I won't annoy you too much !
I am inspired enough today to talk to you about a great organisation that I've been supporting for a couple of years now. They are Avaaz.org and as Wikipedia would say, it is a "global civic organization launched in January 2007 that promotes activism on issues such as climate change, human rights, animal rights, corruption, poverty, and conflict".
Avaaz describes itself as a non-governmental organisation that wants to "close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want".
It seems very official, serious and influencial, but for me, it is just one or two mails I receive on my phone during the week simply explaining the major aspects of the cause they are defending in this precise mail, and asking you to sign a petition. As simple as that. Already subscribed to their website, the only thing I have to do is to click on the link they propose, to enter my email address in order to sign the petition (if it interests me of course, even though it always does) and tadaaa, tons on positivity sent to my karma (and to the world) ! It takes only ten seconds (how many petitions have I signed between my spanish and mathematic class ? ) but does a great change.
Once or twice in a year they send a massive poll where they ask you about the things you'd like to hear more on their website, they ask what are the most important issues to take care of (animal rights, environment, human rights etc..) it is very long and very complete but is important for the improvement of the organisation.
Even though I think it is a very good way to get involved in human issues and to get a better knowledge of what our world goes through, there are some negative points with Avaaz.org
When you sign a petition, it immediately sends you back a thankful, polite email confirming your signing, but they never send you an email later on to give you feedbacks about the impact of the petition. I've signed hundreds of them, but I've never known if they were effective or not. I guess you can find those informations on their website but yeah no I'm too busy (lazy) to check.
I hope you will take a look at this organisation and even subscribe to their sort of newsteller, I promise their emails are not pervasive at all !
See you next year hopefully,
Justine xx
