Dear
Charlie,
Last
Saturday, we went to the Alcazar for an afternoon based on James Ellroy's work.
He was there to present his last book Perfidia
which was published in 2014. It is the first novel in The Second L.A.
Quartet.
James
Ellroy was born in 1948 in L.A. He is an American writer and scriptwriter
specialized in roman noir and in historical detective novels. His mother was
murdered when he was ten, which inspired a lot his stories. He has made it the
central theme of his life. The world he depicts is very pessimistic and corrupted.
He talks about racial inequalities in America, but also corrupt policemen and
plotting. Murders in his books are often very violent. He is mostly famous for
the Black Dahlia which talks about Elizabeth Short's story, and L.A
confidential which is about the corrupt world in L.A.
Saturday,
we first watched a documentary about him called Sa Part d'Ombre, which was about his life and his work. Then, James Ellroy answered
a journalist's questions and the public's ones. Finally, we could have a
dedication by the author himself (we even have shaken his hand and taken
pictures with him!).
Here is
the conference.
Hope you
like it and that now you want to read his books!
Bye!

ReplyDeleteI haven't finished "The Black Dahlia", but if you want, I have L.A Confidential ^^
ReplyDeleteWhat a showman! Glad you enjoyed it! I've just read "The Big Nowhere", the second in the LA Quartet, and it was GREAT! LA Confidential will be next!
