I think I need to get this out

Hey people.

I thought I should bring it up since all the tears that have gone through my face since.

Let's talk about la la land, shall we ?

I just went at the Gyptis to see it a second time. By the way, other screenplays there are... wait. There aren't any other screenplays at the Gyptis. All I know is that it's still on at the Chambord if you're interested, and I hope you will.

I really hope so because, if you are familiar with Damien Chazelle's work, you probably saw the exploading beauty of his previous movie, Whiplash. The music, the action, the realisation are just mind-blowing. I also saw it nearly a trillion times, and it always got me to the same awe. Miles Teller, I love you.

La la land is to me a piece of absolute beauty, made with the work a passionate fella. Just my type. Damien, I love you. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are to me in this movie so much more than movie stars. Their characters moved me so much, this scene where Ryan's character describes how he loves jazz was so beautiful, the passion was palpable. And of course Emma, with her bulging-with-truth blue eyes got me enthralled.
I think you would also be awed with the decors, the scenery. It is quite dreamy, out of this world, really. Just like the love story, the music, the actors, and this whole thing.

Damien, I love you. And if you're reading this, I'm probably crying listening to City of Stars or dancing and singing my throat out to Someone in the crowd.

I'd love to cry again with one of you some time when it's still on screens.
Lilac sky to all of you.
         Marilyn

  1. I have terribly missed all the screenplays at Gypis :c
But, I really intend to watch that musical at the Chambord some other day when I'd have some time... I'm looking forward to see the film and thank you Marilyn for explaining your reaction of LaLaLand, it is never to much to listen (well in this case reading) a review of a movie!

  2. I've seen it (even if it wasn't at the gyptis) and I think it's fun to see how diferent the opinions can be :p, indeed I havn't been as moved as you by this movie even if I really enjoyed watching it! and I agree on one point, the actors were veeeery good! (and the images too by the way, I really loved all the scenes taking place the night with colored neon that made a great atmosphere)
I wouldn't necessarily watch it another time but it was a good moment and I'm happy you enjoyed it!
    Thanks!

  3. Woooooow your review is very moving! Just like Gaby I unfortunately missed the screenplays at the Gyptis. Anyway La La Land for me doesn't seem as incredible as everybody describes it. But I can't judge because I didn't see it. Looking forward to have my own opinion, and don't be too depressed about the songs Marilyn ;) bye bye

  4. I've seen the movie I think three weeks ago and I think it is over rated.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that lala land is bad, absolutely not. The OST is good (not as good as Your Name's OST to me but whatever), I liked a lot Ryan Gossling and the use of colours is good. But I think this movie is clearly over rated when it comes to the story and the dance scenes. I wasn't expecting something close to Fred Astaire's level but I was surprised that so many people praise the dance scenes when it's good but not so impressive. And the story... come on, it's really basic, I know it's a kind of homage to the genre but I think they could have improve it.

  7. Before I start commenting, I just want to say that I'm a big fan of musicals. And that's why I was so excited about this one, because it's pretty rare to see a musical on a big screen nowadays (aand I don't have the money to go to New York to see them on Broadway).
I don't really like Ryan Gosling, which probably makes my opinion subjective but he and Emma Stone are not singers at all, they shouldn't be in a singing movie (they weren't too bad, but I'm convinced that with real singers the movie could have been better)
To me, the big plus of this movie was the images (absolutely breath-taking night scènes). The costumes were great too (the dresses of Emma's character and her friends).
About the story... I mean, if you have seen "New York, New York", then you basically already know everything that is going to happen. The songs were fine, but (except for the first number) not that awesome.
To finish, I'm actually sad that Emma Stone won an Oscar for that role. Not because she was bad (she was not), but because her acting was just fine. Not amazing or moving. I think that she and Ryan Gosling (and the movie) were really over-rated and that shows just how much musicals are lacking on the big screen since a few years (a decade mayber?).

  8. Evrything about this movies is awesome. The cast, the music, the colors, the costumes, the story.. I watched it twice and cried so much you have no idea.
La la land remind me of a movie called "down with love" with Ewan Mcgregor as first role and it's also a good film that you should watch if you love movies like la la land ;)

  9. I haven't watched it yet! (I know I'm a bit late) Emma Stone is one of my favourite actress, I discovered her in the Amazing Spiderman. I'm not that much of a fan of Ryan Gosling but I must admit that he's a great actor so I'm probably going to watch it.
