I want to change people minds after Paris' events, so why don't starting a debate? ;)
So, when you saw the tittle you may have had 3 reactions?
-He is kinda right.
-Don't know this, let's see what is it about
-In what honor can he says that?
So, let me explain you the thing.
I'm not find of sports, but I like to see some new stuff. And one kind that I particularly like is martial sport because of the discipline, the respect that is in the atmosphere... but it has been several month that I discovered a one that I didn't know: UFC.
UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship. When I saw that I was kinda worried, so I watched a "fight"... I couldn't watch more than 6 minutes, it was horrible. So for the few ones that know what UFC is you may think that I'm exagerating a little bit, but let me explain.
So basiclly UFC is a fight between two person (it can be man vs man or woman vs woman), and the first one that knocks out the other won. Globally the ways of winning are the same as in boxe. It was basically invented to find the "best fighter ever", because there are no fixed martial art to use. At the begining, it was almost forbidden everywhere because of its violence. Then the federation (the MMA) began to set some rules and it slowly became one of the most important fighting association in the world (they are recogonized by the Olympic comitee).
So you may say "but it's just a fighting sport like all others, what's the matter?", well the matter is that it's one of the most violent sport I've ever seen and even if there are some rules, those are not really rules (like there is one that says not to rip of the skin on your opponent head or not to attack your opponent in the eyes...)
So yes, and also what me uneasy is the arena. An image is better than a long explanation:
Not that I'm claustrophobic or anything... but I mean common, it's almost creepy with this wiring
Some may find hypocrit to hear that from a "fighter" (I practice fencing and medieval fencing), but it really is to me just an arena version of street fight.
I honestly don't get the point in watching this, to see 2 humans beeings fighting so violently and having big injuries (I won't post any images about this because some are almost horrific...). Even though I accept violence in videogames and in cinema (well, there's still a limit at both), I don't see what's entertaning in real life violence.
I will stop there because there are too much to say about this.
So please guys, post your opinions in the comment, I would be happy to read them. And also, if there's someone that likes UFC in the comment, I would be interested to know why.
Hope you enjoyed and see you soon Charlie. Bye!
I agree with you, it is very violent and really not pleasant to see.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's just pure violence even if it is considered as a sport!
Peace guuuyyss !!!
I would be really surprised if someone in the OIB didn't agree with you. I don't understand how hurting someone with no real rule can be good for anyone (although, it depends on the case. But then it shouldn't be something to watch in this kind of situation, it's much more spontaneous, and has a very different objective, which isn't really good either but at least it's not just violence for violence)...
ReplyDeleteThis is the point. What I'm searching in martial art is not violence or self-defense technics: it's the beauty and the choregraphy made by a mutual respect and hits that aren't meant to harm. But here, the goal is just to beat the hell out of the other just to entertain some persons.
DeleteThe thing is, where I laughed at WWE because it's fake as hell and the guys (and girls) who are doing it don't even know how to act correctly, where I respect Judo and Fencing because they have a code of honor, I'm disgusted by the free violence.
What scares me even more, is that a growing trand always hit children... And what example is given to to them?! It's horrible!!!
Also, even brilliant philosopher loved gladiators fight, so somehow, I guess humans in their deepest feeling have somehow a bloodlust.
I completely agree with you. This is horrible, I couldn't bare watching two minutes of UFC (you might have already guessed it, but I'm sooo sensitive). Anyway, I still find your article interesting.
