Dear Charlie,
There's currently a season of films starring one of the greatest Hollywood actors of all, Paul Newman, and it's on at the "Institut de l'Image" in Aix. There are wonderful films including "Hud", "Cool Hand Luke", "The Hustler" and the legendary (in every sense of the word) "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", where his co-star was his friend Robert Redford. There's even a film he directed, called "Sometimes a Great Notion", which is set in Oregon, and is adapted from a novel by Ken Kesey, who also wrote "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". I'm really looking forward to seeing that one, to say nothing for the Hitchcock, "Torn Curtain". That only leaves the epic (three and a half hours) "Exodus" about the founding of Israel, and "The Verdict". Essential viewing, in my opinion. Find a day to go Christmas shopping in Aix, and take in a film or two! They're on until Christmas Eve. And read the programme for extra info. I'm sorry it's in French, but the films are in English, of course!
Have you seen any of these films? Which ones sound the most interesting, in your opinion?
All the best,
Mr Leah
