Hi Charlie!
It's Farah and today, I'm going to talk about the Treasury of Petra. (I'm literally obssessed with it)
I'm sure most of you have already heard about it since it's one of the Seven wonders of the world, but have you ever thought about why it is so spectacular? Well, let's check it out together.
I can confidently say that the Treasury, also known as Al-Khazneh, is one the best monuments that i have ever heard about. The Treasury is constructed in the early 1st century CE( almost 2000 years ago) during the reign of Nabataean king Aretas IV. It is located in a beautiful city called Petra in southern Jordan.
Personally, I am truly amazed by the Treasury of Petra. The fact that this magnificent structure was carved directly out of a sandstone cliff is astonishing. (It must have took them many years). Considering the limited tools and knowledge available during the time of its construction, it's even more remarkable. The skill and creativity needed to build such a large and detailed monument with only basic tools are truly impressive. It shows just how talented the ancient Nabataeans were.
Its special design is the main reason that it has had attracted many people. It is a mix of various styles from different cultures like Greek and Roman. The diverse architectural styles of the Treasury reveal the Nabataeans' strong connections with other civilizations. This mix of influences suggests they traded and shared ideas with other cultures. By using these outside designs, they showed how they learned from their neighbors and were part of a larger network of cultural exchange.
There's a large urn at the top which made people think that it holds treasure, which explains why it's called the Treasury. The skilled engineers who made this masterpiece also created systems to collect and store rainwater in the dry desert.
Unfortunately, the exact reason for constructing this awe-inspiring monument is still a mystery. It is believed that it may have served as a grand tomb, due to its striking design and location. however, others propose that it could have been a temple or had an entirely diffrent significant function.
I have always wanted to see the treasury due to its particular features and the fact that it is holding a 2000 years old history. Let me know if you also loved this marvelous monument! I will be happy to know your opinions.
I agree with you that this monument is really impressive and spectacular. I would like to go to Petra to see that now. Maybe my next trip soon, who knows ! But I find that one of the most impressive fact about that monument is that it is not only beautiful but also very useful with the water system.
ReplyDeleteThe Treasury of Petra is impressive in so many ways, it's no wonder it's one of the seven wonders of the world! I really hope I'll be able to visit this monument some day, it's just absolutely gorgeous and so well thought out. The fact that there is mystery around it's use and history just makes it even more interesting and definitely worth having a small obsession for.
ReplyDeleteI think that the treasury of Petra is probably the most under-appreciated architecture masterpiece in the world, and reading your article made me want to visit this place even more than i did before. The fact that this structure isn't only one of the most beautiful places in the world but was once also a useful water reserve is remarkable. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is an absolute UNDERRATED masterpiece. It's a shame it is still not known by everybody. It shows the richness of the Near East's civilisations. To speak about architecture, this monument is amazing. Everything looks so "majestic" and as you already told, the fact that people back then build it without very complex tools seem so crazy !
ReplyDeleteThe Treasury of Petra is just magnificent. The fact that people used only old tools and sandstone is very impressive. I also hope that the mystery of the construction of the monument will be solved one day! I had been amazed by this monument since my childhood. I hope to see it in real life one day because of how amazing it is.
