Hey Charlie,
Do you have
long hair and fancy a change? Why not give it away to make wigs for children with cancer? The Little
Princess Trust in Britain or Solidhair in France make free wigs for children
with cancer. All you need to do is follow these simple steps:
- - Wash your hair without conditioner the day before going to the hairdresser
- - Tell your hairdresser you are giving your hair away to charity
- -
Tie
your hair in a low ponytail
- - Plait that ponytail
- - Tie another elastic at the bottom of your plait
- - Ask your hairdresser to cut just above the first elastic
- - Put your plait in an envelope with your name, address, email address and a little note saying why you did it
- - Send it
- - Raise funds
- - Put a little inspirational quote or a little note explaining the reasons of your good deed on the Little Princess Trust website
- For a long-haired wig the minimum length you need to donate is 30-35 cm and the absolute minimum is 17 cm. Sorry, for all of those with dyed hair, you won’t be able to donate it as they cannot make a wig with it.
It is
really that easy to help a child diagnosed with cancer and bring a smile to her/his
face. Everybody can do their own little bit.
My hair was
down to my belly button. I had grown it for over a year for that very purpose. Last
summer, while I was in Bristol, I had it cut to my jaw and sent a 35cm plait to The
Little Princess Trust.
So, what are you waiting for? All you long-haired students who feel like a change for the New Year, get yourself off to the hairdresser's!
