Hello
hello, it’s been a long time since I didn’t write an article (yes
I did once...) .
To
be honest at first I didn’t have very many ideas but as my mind was
working I found a subject which is the place of women in show
business, music, art, etcetera…
In
cinema :
according to a website in 2016
women represented :
4% of directors
11% of writers
3% of cinematographers
19% of producers
14% of editors
You can also add to that the fact
that in history only one women won the Academy Award for Best
Director (Kathryn Bigelow in 2010) and same for the Palme d’or
(Jane Campion in 1993)
In
music :
a recent study shown that 66% of
the people working in the music industry are male.
An Australian study also said
that 1 artist (musician) on 5 in the country was a woman and on the
same study that 80% of the record labels were managed by men
In
art :
I think the place of women in art
can be well resumed by these two famous posters from the Guerrilla
Girls
So that was a short article but I
hope it refreshed your mind on the fact that the fight for equal
rights isn’t finished yet !
With this, see you
Tamara
Indeed the situation is a real shame. The St Charles cinema club tried to address the situation by going to see Kathryn Bigelow's latest film, Detroit, but we should all make an effort to support films made by women, and starring women in interesting roles. Let's start by watching everything Agnès Varda has made!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS POSTER. When we were in Ottawa, we saw this poster with Elea and we fell in love with it. Then I went to London and saw the actuall painting and it was great. the situation regarding women is indeed a shame, it is sad and annoying to see that inequalities are reproducing in every field of society.
ReplyDeleteYou should read the book about camille claudel, that is describing the bravery of a woman and an artist too.
Indeed, in Ottawa I bought a pink poster, which is in fact a letter from the Guerilla Girls to the "Dearest art Collector", and they are saying with great irony that there are not enough paintings in the museums' collection made by women artists. And Alberta also gave me a postcard from London about them! Anyway, great article!
ReplyDeleteGreat posters. Even if the mentality is changing there is a long way ( well I hope not too long) to gender equality. Thank you for this article ! It refreshed my mind.
