Hello everybody !
Today I wanted to talk to you about a subject we all know :
Social Networks.
I don’t think I really need to tell you what a social network is : saying « Facebook » would be enough.
Facebook is the representation of social networks, and many people have an account, but there are also many others, as for example Twitter, or Ask.fm.
A social network is a convenient and easy way to keep in touch with your friends, wherever they are : you can share photos, have a chat with a friend or a group of friends via a private « box », or even share events of your life. Each social network offers different possibilities, so if you don’t like one, you can choose the other.
Described like that, social networks are just amazing. And it really is, from a certain point a view.
The thing is, many people describe Facebook as an evil corporation, stealing your privacy ; Twitter as a stupid media only made so politics could insult each other ; and Ask.fm as a place where teenagers get bullied. « Social networks » sounds like the worst for many parents, and they forbid their children from creating an account.
Now, are those people right ?
Is it okay to think that social networks do not have qualities ? Is it really Facebook’s only goal to steal our private information ? Are there only « bad » people on Twitter and Ask.fm ?
There are many different opinions about these subjects. Some people think social networks need to be boycotted. Some other think they need to be improved. Some other think they are just great as they currently are.
I personally think social networks are a cool way to keep in touch with your friends, or share information. Though we are never sure enough about where our informations end up : so we can have an account on a social media, but need to be careful with what we say and share.
As for a website like Ask.fm, that has a pretty bad fame, it is important to remember that some people just don’t realise there is a person behind the screen, so what they might say really does not matter.

What do you think about social media ?
Are they good, or bad ? Should everyone have an account, or should nobody
have one ?

Without entering into the debate of "ILLUMINATI ARE WATCHING US AND STEELING OUR DATAS!!!!!!", I can say there's one place where our datas ends, and not only thanks to social networks.
ReplyDeleteNever found out that when you where looking for banas produc (let's take this as an example), you'll have lots of ad on the internet (if you don't have AdBlock)that talks about banas products? Well, there it is: Social networks sell a certain number of users informations to big advertising comapnies so that they can be sure about the advertising that are going to appear on your screen, and so you'll be more tempted to buy a certain product.
*flies away*
Well I think the same as you. Social networks are great but we have to be careful of the information we put on it cause it's never too safe. We also have to limit our time on it or else it can change our lifes. Here is a video that talks about social networks and I find it interested. So take a look if you'de like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcrpsduxL08
ReplyDeleteI think that people (including me of course) just don't know how to use social networks, as every innovation (even though social networks are not that new but still...). It has a lot of good points, but the real problem is that we often forget about them and use it in a "bad" way. I think that everyone can have accounts on social networks (because as phones/cars/computers/elevators it is a progress), but shouldn't let it have a huge importance/power on their lives!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as it helps other people to judge your life and doings, it will be always bad.
DeleteI've heard something like Facebook wanted to create a new feature: a dislike button, and on one side (eventhough I'm not using social networks) I think it's not a bad idea, on the other side I'm almost sure that it will bring lots of problems, and I won't be surprised if there's an augmentation of the suicides due to that. If you don't see my point, tell me, I'll explain
Loads of people were asking for that dislike button since almost the beginning, and Facebook decided to do something to stop them from complaining. Though, it won't be exactly a dislike button, but a sequence of emojis from "Really bad" to "Amazing", because a dislike button would be too harsh. And I completely agree, I even think the "like" button is enough. If you don't like something, you can ignore it.
DeleteIt's still beta, though, and very few people can use it.
I think that we can, all of us (including all teenagers), limit the informations that we "entrust" to the social networks. A social network can be a danger but it can be avoided.
