So here is a new session of the debate club. Now that we already did a debate on personal opinions, we are ready to dive into the MUN process. As most of you know, MUN stands for Model United Nations. Everything is pretty clear in the title : we react on a question involving the whole world by representing a country which could have political views totally opposed to yours. That's what the most interesting about this kind of debate : you have to say things you don't think and fight for the country you represent anyway.
For the first time, I decided to choose a subject which is quite easy and was treated in real United Nations meetings.
The topic is : Capital Punishment Worldwide
Questions which should be answered are : Should it be stopped everywhere? Should it be punished by the International law? Could it be accepted with specific rules? (age, degree of crime etc) and Should there be an international court to decide whether a person is submitted to capital punishment?
Well, I know last time it talked about guns, now about death... I might seem kind of obsessed with that but I think life is a subject which has to be talked about because there are many different opinions...
Once again, IT IS NOT A PERSONAL DEBATE, you ought to receive the name of a country which I will randomly choose for you and you will have to do some research on it, write a list of arguments, know some things about your country even though you don't like the way they think and argue with other delegates!
Really, it will be fun if everyone gives a bit of work and approximately knows what to say.
To get your country, either come to see me (Céline in Terminale) at school or send me an email : celine.mouchart@hotmail.fr or contact me by Facebook
The next meeting will take place on friday the 13th in Mr Leveque's room (213 I think) at 12.30 (and not 12.40...)
See you soon! And hope you enjoy the topic and the way the debate will happen...
Céline
