My thoughts about school

Hello dear Charlie!

As you certainly know, this blog is full of students, and teachers.
So, as students, we obviously go to school, and I want to share on this blog what I think about school. I may not talk for all the students in the world but I know some will recognize themselves, maybe even teachers remembering their school time (which was not so long ago).
You may think all the students think like “omg I hate school it’s so boring”, “when are the next holidays?”, “ugh I have 2 hours of geography, I’m not gonna make it”. But actually I don’t think like that. It’s obvious that at one point, we all want school to be over and holidays to come, especially the summer break, but I like school because I can learn new things, which are interesting (generally). I love English and school is the only place where I can hear and talk this language, with my teachers and friends, and as we are in an international section we must speak english all the time, and I find that really great.
I have to admit sometimes I don’t want to wake up from my bed and go to class, because I’m tired, like everyone. You see, today I’m sick. I decided not to go to school this morning because I was feeling really bad, but now that I’m feeling better, I’m going to school this afternoon and I’m not going to stay home like some people would do. Not because school is my passion but because I like learning and also because I know if don’t go to class I’ll be lost the next lesson even if I catch up, and it is really annoying to feel that.
I kind of told you my life on this article but I really wanted to tell you what I thought, and try to erase clichés people have about students’ relationship with school. That’d be fun if some of you, people frequenting school 5 days a week, would comment and tell us what school is for you; a boring place? Heaven? (I doubt that haha)

Write to you soon, Alicia xx

  1. I wouldn't say that school is for me "heaven" but this is not "hell" too ! Actually since I'm in high-school I feel a lot better than before ! I love most of the lesson we have there and I think that the teachers are really interested in what they teach us and us (as a person not only a student) ! I don't know but high-school was for me kind of a revolution (:

    1. I totally agree with you ! High school is a world of adults or at least a world people a lot more mature than in "collège", and I think that's why we feel more interested in lessons.
PS : I think school will never be heaven for me xD

  2. All of what you said is really true, I must admit that my thoughts about school are not completely positive, but well, I wouldn't imagine anything better actually.
There has been a big change for me this year. I used to sleep during the class in Collège, but now, the lessons are way more interesting, I do learn a lot and I love this feeling. The way the teacher get involved in the class touched me a lot and It gave me the desire to improve.I have made new friends that I know I will never forget. So yes, school is a whole universe, it shapes all your life, so heaven or hell, It will always leave a trace in our mind.

    1. I guess I could imagine something better, maybe because A) I'm a dreamer and B) I spent ten months in an Australian school and that was the best learning experience of my life, but overall I agree with you (and everyone else so far) : High school is better than Middle school.

  3. You're totally right! this first year in high school is, for me, really interesting, I enjoy what we're doing in class, especially in English, even if I'm not the biggest fan of litterature in the world. this year is, as Agathe said, a big change for me too. So I just try to do my best and when it doesn't work I'm totally devastated but then I think how lucky I am of being in this section and I try harder.
P-S: My turn to be sick today...

  4. I'm really surprised that some many students think like that. As Alicia rightly said school have the reputaiton to be B O R I N G but I think this year is different. I don't know whereas it's our specific school or just that I got more interested in things but this year has so far been the best one for me in a french high school (we can't rival with America haha). I learn new things everyday and I can also relate the subjects between one another. For example, on my last dissertation I talked a lot about books we read in English class and my teacher loved it! I don't thing the french school system is the best but it's far to be the worst. The only negative point is that as far as I'm concerned, we spend too much time at school and we don't have time to practice sports regularly or just chill for a second.

  5. Alicia said everything I (and most students) thought about school so thank you! And I must add that as human beings, we, who are living in France, are really lucky to go to school and have an education, something that lots of children wherever in the world don't have. So we should be happy to have that privelege.

  6. Yes! Friends are also a big part of school, you find new ones and sometimes form an incredible friendship with them!
As you said, school is a big chance, especially if we think about some people who don't even have the choice of going to school offered...

  7. Wow! That is a so clever, intelligent, brilliant article!
You were brave enough to say what many and many students'd like to say but do not, feeling anxious about how they would appear in front of some of their classmates, and other students...
I'm shameful to say I have been part of those shy people for a quite long time... But now those times are over! I'm now able to say, as you did, that I do like school, because we do learn much things, learn about life, even more in OIB, where we're with motivated people who, like us, want to learn and discuss about specific topics!
What I also do, quite often, to motivate myself doing homework is thinking to my future plans, saying myself how it will be nice for me to do the job I want to do having worked a lot being younger... Anyway, who matters after all?! =D
What I also really like is to talk with teachers I'm close with about my future, because I really feel like speaking with someone who matters about my future plans... See what I mean?
Anyway, school's great, and you've shown it in this article! Congrats!
