Hello Charlie, today I'll write about Summer McInotsh, the new Katie Ledecky.
Summer McIntosh was born in Toronto in 2006, daughter of the swimmer Jill Horstead.
At the age of 14 she broke her first record swimming the 400 metre freestyle in 4:05.13 !
Her stokes are freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and individual medley, so she swims every swimming strokes except breaststroke (to me it's the more technic stroke)
She used to be part of the Toronto Titans during the International Swimming League (the ISL, was a League created in 2019, 4 seasons happened but this league doesn't exist anymore).
McIntosh took her place as a great swimmer when at 14 she was the youngest of the Canadian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics though she didn't win any medals, she arrived fourth in the 400m freestyle.
Summer is confident, and she can be ! During the 2025 World Aquatics Championships she arrived with red and gold nails representing Canada and number of gold medals she was hoping for. She actually won 4 gold medals and a bronze one and was named the Female Swimmer of the Meet.
Today, she has broken more than fifty Canadian records, but in 2023 she broke two world records, the 400m freestyle and medley (it consists of swimming the 4 swims in this order : butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and crawl).
Since so, she has broken new records but during the 2025 championships she was near (0,18s) to beat the world record of the 200m butterfly.
In September, Summer McIntosh joined the coach Bob Bownman, coach of the best swimmer of all time : Michael Phelps. But More recently, Bob Bownman also coached the swimmer of the generation, Léon Marchand ( who has been named the male swimmer of the meet during the 2025 Championships)
A bright future is opening to her with this coach and we probably will see that during the LA28 Olympics.
