Children of men // When all hopes are dashed...

Dear Charlie…

So, yesterday, I was watching a movie called «  Children of men », and I thought it would be cool to tell you guys about it.

First of all, you may ask, who made this movie ?

Well, Alfonso Cuàron made this film. And maybe you’re telling yourself « I think I know this guy » So,yes, he made one of the Harry Potter Film.

But let me tell you that « Children of men » is nothing like Harry Potter. Anyway, that's not my point.

You’re probably wondering now what is the movie about .

It’s actually based upon an eponymous book, by P.D James.

Children of men takes place in a dystopian world where humanity is no longer able to give birth, leading it to its imminent death. In this surrounding chaos, only Great Britain’s people survived despite the war and the pandemic.

Theo Faron, the hero of the story, one day meet Kee, the first pregnant woman in 18 years. He decides to protect her and her baby at all costs.

Theo (Clive Owen) and Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey)

I’m not giving you more details, otherwise you might have spoilers from me, and that would be a shame !

I found this film very good, and it may even be one of my favourites now. The filming is absolutely awesome and the scenario is breathtaking. The acting is also amazing ! I also loved the set : taking place in London, the film shows places in the city that you can recognise if you have been there, and since we are in a dystopian world, you might guess that these places are a little bit more different that you may have seen.

I strongly recommand this movie, but it can be sad and a bit violent too.

  1. yeah that movie seemed cool, I wanted to see it, it kind of reminds me of « the light of my life » a movie that take place in a dystopian world, where all the women were killed by the government and the « women’s plague » and where a father has to protect his daughter, who needs to learn how to survive. anyway loves a great dystopian movie, might read the book

    1. "The light of my life" ? Never heard about it, I'm gonna check it out ! Also, in the "dystopian style" I'm pretty sure The Hunger Games are my favourite, both the books and the movies !

  4. Dystopian alert in particular for 1ere and Terminale ! This film and Light of my Life can provide useful food for thoughts in relation to the Handmaid's Tale.

  5. Oh wow this looks pretty neat, adding it to the list of movies i must watch which is currently like 10 meters long XD. Also this aesthetic reminds me of The Road! It's also a sort of post-apocalyptic dad protects child movie! I absolutely loved the book and recommend it since it's not that hard of a read. (a lot easier than to kill a mockingbird)

  9. Ooh, this seems genuinely interesting !
Well, you’re right. It doesn’t look like a Harry Potter film. But I think Science-Fiction and Dystopias often appear to be a fascinating way to see society’s issues from a different perspective, so I’ll most definitely watch it. Plus, you said it takes place in London : I’m curious to know which places I will be able to recognize…or not !
