Hi Charlie!
This week on FRANCE
4, something AMAZING is going to happen. The channel will
broadcast three fantastic animes by Hayao Miyazaki.
He co-founded with Isao
Takahata the Ghibli studios which produce masterpieces since 1985 (I
wasn't even born!!!). Their films distinguish themselves from others
mangas by a special atmosphere, musics and drawings: a wonderful
feeling of being so small in such a huge world with endearing
characters (and so kawaii!!!). Moreover, each film sounds like a
fable with a morality and a message of hope (it always begins rather
bad and ends up pretty good).
Princess Mononoke deals
with nature survival in an industrial world, - still a nowadays'
challenge for our modern society. To put it in a nutshell, I'd like
to quote this from one of the characters 'you must see with eyes
unclouded by hate'.
It will be broadcast on
Sunday, the 25th (tomorrow actually ^^) at 8.50 pm.
For their part, Spirited
Away and Howl's Moving Castle will be both broadcast on Wednesday,
the 28th from 8.50 pm.
I hope this will make you
want to discover them, or discover again, and that you will enjoy
them as much as I do...
Miyazaki is one of my favorite directors! So I'm not going to miss it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this article, I did not know! :)
I remember watching '' Princess Mononoke '' and I liked it even though I'm not into mangas and all those stuff (too bad I read this too late to rewatch it )
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was little, Princess Mononoke was my favorite film ;)
ReplyDeleteToo bad I did not saw this article earlier ;(
Mine was My neighbor Totoro!! Sooo cute ^^
DeleteI just logged in and saw there were some Miyazaki fans.
ReplyDeleteHe's also one of my favorite directors and his films still are among my favorites ever.
I love Nausicaa and know it by heart.
Miyasaki is all my childhood ! I know his films thanks to my best friend, because she was before me already a Miyasaki fan... ! The first Miyasaki film that I saw was "Ponyo" a really sweety film ! Then my friend showed me "spirited way" and I was really anxious ! I thought that the film was for little children before but now I know that that's for older children!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this article was about Japanese anime films I immediatly clicked..
ReplyDeleteHow to say that these tree movies have made my childhood even if they scared me so much especially Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away (when the parents suddenly transformed into pigs at the beginning) And I am still watching them.. I think they are so poetic, the drawings are beautiful, the stories are so interesting and the music.. It sounds so beautiful!
It's strange because I have never really read mangas but these movies are for sure my favourites!
By the way I also really like From Up on Poppy Hill, and the The Borrower Arrietty, but if you like this kind of movies I guess you already watched them !
