All about volleyball !
1. A Bit of History
• Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan, at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts. • Originally called “Mintonette,” the name was changed when someone observed the volleying action of the ball back and forth over the net—it became known as volleyball. • It became an Olympic sport in 1964. Since then, it has spread all over the world, with many countries hosting leagues and tournaments.

2. How the Game Works Court & Equipment
• The playing area is divided by a net. The court size (indoor) is usually 18 meters long and 9 meters wide. • Each team has 6 players on the court in standard indoor volleyball. Positions include setter, libero, hitters (outside/opposite), and middle blockers. Basic Rules • The game starts with a serve. The serving team tries to send the ball over the net so that the opponent can’t return it properly. • Each team may contact the ball up to three times before it has to go back over the net. • If the ball touches the floor on the opponent’s side, or they commit a fault (like touching the net or failing to return), the other team scores a point. Scoring & Sets • A match is usually best of 5 sets. The first four sets go to 25 points, but if needed, the fifth set often goes to 15 points. • You must win a set by at least 2 points. So if it’s 24-24, play continues until a team leads by 2.

3. Skills & Strategy
Volleyball isn’t only about jumping and hitting the ball hard—there’s more to it: • Serving: good serves can put pressure on the opponent from the start. • Passing / Receive: getting a good first touch after the serve is crucial. • Setting: the setter’s job is to position the ball so hitters can spike. • Hitting / Spiking: attacking the ball sharply over the net. • Blocking & Defense: stopping opponent’s attacks and covering the court. • Teamwork & Rotation: players rotate positions after winning back the serve, so everyone has to adapt.
4. Why Play Volleyball?
• It’s great for fitness: improves coordination, balance, speed, reflexes. • It encourages team spirit. You need to communicate and cooperate. • It can be played almost anywhere: gym, beach, outdoors. • It’s fun and social: many people play for pleasure as well as competition.

6. Why do I play volleyball ?
I started volleyball two years ago with my bestfriend because I thought it would be funny, and since then it has become my favorite sport and activity, not only mine but my family's too, when I have a match my family comes supporting me and sometimes we are going to professional team matches together (like Aix Venelles). I think it's very important to find something which helps you exercise yourself and think about something else while having fun. It also helped me with other things like expressing myself and standing out in a team. Talking about a team, i've also met a bunch of cool persons who have become my friends, I train two times a week with them. I think all that explains why I love volleyball !!!
Conclusion, Volleyball is more than just a game—it’s a way to improve physically, socially, and mentally. Whether you want to join a team, lead your school squad, or just play with friends, it’s accessible and rewarding.
I hope one day we can play volleyball !! Very good article btw
